Asha Bhosle

The world-renowned Asha Bhosle, the legendary Indian artiste who selected Birmingham as the home for her first UK based Indian restaurant and bar arrived in Birmingham on Tuesday 24th November 2009 for a press conference to sign a contract transferring the UK master franchise rights to Brandasia Holdings Limited, a company controlled by Paul Bassi and Pawan Kenth. 

 The top-rated Indian restaurant in the Michelin Guide 2009 for the West Midlands was acquired from Regent Inns who subsequently went into administration, by two of the region’s leading businessmen, Paul Bassi and Pawan Kenth, saving 30 jobs. 

 Brandasia have now secured the UK master franchise rights to the Dubai-based Asha’s brand – founded by the famous Grammy nominated Indian singer star Asha Bhosle in 2002.  Interest to open franchises in London and Manchester have already been received with plans to open a further 10 franchise restaurants over the next five years. The two business men officially signed the contracts with Asha Bhosle and Anand Bhosle (Asha’s son) who is involved in the business side of the franchise. 

The pair said there would be a couple of announcements coming up for plans of Asha’s new restaurants around the UK. Both businessmen said ‘We are looking at this very much as a long term business, Asha Bhosle is Bollywood royalty’   Paul Bassi later described the meeting with Bollywood legend Asha Bhosle as a bit like having Madonna and Beyonce all wrapped up in one coming to your restaurant.  Asha’s Birmingham restaurant was opened to critical acclaim two years ago following a £1.2 million pound fit out and recently hosted the cast of Slumdog Millionaire, as well as enjoying a loyal following of local celebrities, politicians, business people and professional footballers. 

With sister restaurants in Dubai, Qatar, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and Kuwait, others scheduled to open in New Delhi and New York, making Asha’s the only international Indian restaurant in Birmingham.  Asha’s has already been inundated with top awards including: Winner: Midlands Curry Awards 2009; Finalist: British Curry Awards 2009; Taste of Birmingham – Best Newcomers 2007; Best in Britain Award – Best Newcomers 2007; British Curry Award – Best Newcomers 2007 and finalist for 2008. 

Asha Bhosle’s first love is singing, her life’s love is cooking and she wants to share it with the world. All Asha’s chefs have been personally trained by Asha and recruited from India. Innovative and vibrant, Asha’s aim is to expand worldwide, with a desire to provide the most genuine, exciting and exquisite dining experience to a global audience catering to all tastes with the culinary & beverage delights that are on offer.

Not only are an extra two thousand fans a night going to be able to enjoy shows at Birmingham’s brand new, bigger-capacity LG Arena, but every single one of the 15,700 audience members will be able to settle into an extra couple of inches of space as designers working on the £29m arena redevelopment have cleverly found ways to increase the size of each seat as well as the total capacity of the arena.

All in all an extra 800 metres of space has been found to make sure audiences at the LG Arena have a great night out. That’s the equivalent of joining eight football pitches together end-to-end.

The comfortably-padded, bigger seats are just part of a range of major improvements at the reinvigorated venue which re-opens in October. There will be no more hopping up and down in the queue as there also will be double the number of toilets, as well as hundreds of LG LCD screens, bigger walkways and a huge pre and post-show entertainment space, forumLIVE – which will house a fantastic range of bars and restaurants.

The LG Arena will also be the only arena in the UK to have its very own show-deck with a spectacular view into the Arena bowl and a private bar for 120 lucky ticketholders every night.

Phil Mead, Director of Arenas at The NEC Group said: “We have listened to our audiences and we believe it is the smallest things that make the biggest difference to a visitor’s experience.

“We know that our visitors want to watch the show in comfort and the challenge of providing those important extra few inches is just one part of our commitment to providing an outstanding audience experience at the LG Arena.

“We are sure that visitors are going to have an amazing time at the new arena where there will be more tickets on sale every night, a bigger choice of food and drink options and a party atmosphere to set the scene for the live shows. As well as enjoying world class live shows, the LG Arena will be a place to come for an amazing night out from start to finish too.”

The venue will be officially launched with an Opening Season which runs from October 7 until December 31.

Marking the official launch of the reinvigorated LG Arena, a stellar line up of stars including teen diva Miley Cyrus, rockers Green Day, and eighties legends Depeche Mode and Spandau Ballet have been confirmed to feature in the LG Arena Opening Season, which runs from October 7 to December 31. 

The LG Arena was rebranded last September following a title rights sponsorship deal with LG Electronics, global leader in consumer electronics, mobile communications and home appliances.
