Birmingham welcomes Enrique Iglesias

The LG Arena opened its doors to thousands of screaming fans, as Birmingham welcomed Spanish heartthrob, Enrique Iglesias for the last leg of his UK Tour. Currently promoting his latest album, Euphoria, the 35-year-old singer took to the stage as every girl’s heart beat began to race, and mine was on the verge of stopping altogether. R’n’B chart topper Lemar, kick started the crowd, and covered hits such as ‘Forget You’ by Cee Lo Green, as well as a number of his own hits. As beautiful as he may be, it was still frustrating that Enrique kept the audience waiting in nothing but anticipation for just under an hour. Then, the human in perfection form that is Enrique appeared from behind the tall, white curtain covering the stage. The first few lyrics to Tonight I’m Lovin You echoed across the arena as every girl raised their fists in the air and sang along. The male attendees of the concert were scanning the girls surrounding them, wondering why they were seem to be having seizures. Dressed down in casual jeans, a tight white t-shirt (we’re not complaining) and a khaki fitted cap, Enrique screamed: “Welcomed Birmingham!” as he rang across the T-shaped stage setting. The track list for Birmingham included Tonight I’m Lovin You, Heartbeat, Rhythm Divine, Bailamos, I’m Not In Love, Now That You’re Gone, Tired of Being Sorry, Do You Know, and encores of Taking Back My Love, Hero, Escape, and I Like It. Enrique’s concert was like no other, it wasn ‘t padded out with any album fillers, every song he sang was a chart topping hit. Within the first half an hour, he was mingling with the crowd as security desperately tried to stop the girls from sexually harassing him. He told the crowd to ‘come on down’ to the stage, yet those irritating guards in luminous yellow jackets told us to stay exactly where we were. It was like a zoo full of hungry animals, and the only food available was Enrique. As usual, a plane Jane was picked out from the audience to spend a few precious minutes being serenaded by Enrique as he sang Hero. The entire performance was difficult to fault. Everything from the man himself to the staging, lights and sounds, was of the highest standard I had ever seen. The show ended with one very sweaty Enrique (yummy!) thanking the crowd for being such an amazing audience. It was one of the most spectacular nights of my life, undoubtedly a Rhythm Divine.

Naila and her team were casting for all artistes, recruiting for future forthcoming Bollywood projects taking place in UK. Naila was out in full force with her team on 18th April in London, only minutes away from the busy and jamm packed Oxford Street; supported by DesiMag.Co.Uk, on mission to discover upcoming talent from all over the UK.



The whole day was dedicated to those who wished to see themselves on screen between all the beauty, glitter & glam as we all know Bollywood to be! The turn out was fantastic, absolutely incredible, there were hopefuls from all different nationalities, some of which were: Pakistani, Indian, Irish, British, Arab, African, Mexican, Philippino, they were coming in, minute after minute and hour after hour.

Hyped with excitement was a young as 6 year old boy called Gabriel who even gave the DesiMag girls a quick peak of his Michael Jackson moves.

The main aspect of the event was to recruit onto the Naila Mughal Artiste Agency with a great opportunity to reach out into the Bollywood Industry via Naila Mughals Artist Agency. Be it, acting, gaining experience in directing films, film production or handling events, Naila Mughal’s agency offers a variety of different routes. It was an opportunity for junior artistes to meet Naila in person with her team who run the Artiste agency based in London.

This unique opportunity was set to help those reach their goal, a path way to get their foot into bollywood directly and gain first hand experience. This also gave them the opportunity to express their passion & present their experience gained over the years to enter the film world, Naila had her eye out for ambitious talented artistes and candidates for selection.

This past Sunday the Illinois Institute of Technology brought together culture, philanthropy and music to create for an unparalleled show of fun and good will.

University and campus bubbles have such great potential to give back to our communities because they are so strong in numbers, ideas and creativity however it is not often student led organizations choose to use this to the benefit of charity.

Imran Bashir, who is the standing President of the Pakistani Student Association wanted to bring Pakistani culture back to IIT’s campus. He felt the tradition himself and many other students were aching for in the states had been disappearing on campus over the years and he wanted to make it his initiative to bring it back- full throttle.

When Imran first approached Thaakat he had wished to make the initiative a success for both of us. Faithfully he appealed to his student board to set aside a percentage of proceeds to go to Thaakat Foundation and Thaakat did the best they could to get the crowds together to promote what Imran had worked with IIT to put together to represent the cultural fervor of South Asians in America.

On Sunday April 25th, the doors opened at 7 pm to a night of “Rock it with Raghav” presented by IIT. Girls screamed as the pop star sailed across the stage, the joyful crowd sang along and all attendees rooted for the show continue on into the wee hours of the Sunday night.

Raghav was born to Indian parents in Canada and at a very young age shared his passion for music. Initially starting as a songwriter and going on to take singing lessons, Raghav became an instrumental part of Indian American pop culture and went on to win numerous awards on local and global levels. With his songs peaking the charts in South Asia as well as in England and the states, his superb characteristic has been his ability to remain humble.

When Thaakat Foundation requested a quick video blog for support from Raghav, he did not hesitate to reach out to the cause and share with people the importance of giving back to your culture and it’s people.

Thank you IIT and Raghav for your generosity towards goodwill!

Entertainment professionals and artists from the South Asian community joined together in support of the not-for-profit organization, Nouveau iDEA.

Executive Director Tushar Unadkat along with Nouveau’s board of directors hosted the 12:12 fundraising gala at Innis Town Hall in Toronto last Saturday evening. Among the supporters of the event was director Dr. Sarab Singh Neelam, who flew in from the USA to attend the screening of his critically acclaimed, multiple-award winning film: Ocean of Pearls, about a man who struggles with his East Asian identity.

The Q&A afterwards proved quite enlightening as Dr. Neelam touched on the universal theme of human values saying that it goes beyond the East Asian culture. It applies to everyone which is why the film has had international success and why Nouveau iDEA chose it for its inaugural event.

Exclusively sponsored by Sahara One television, one of India’s largest media conglomerates, the 12;12 event not only celebrated Nouveau iDEA’s 7th anniversary it also launched a newly expanded mission statement that extends the organization from its on-line community to a physical one starting with Toronto.

Nouveau iDEA’s extended mission is to promote artists of various cultures and to bring the arts and entertainment community together under a multicultural umbrella that celebrates our differences, encourages communication and continues to allow a diverse cross section of artists to flourish.

Following the screening the crowd of 250 was entertained with instrumental music from the near and middle east performed by the Light of East Ensemble. Also on hand were pop-singer Prita Chhabbra and Bollywood-sensation Shweta Subramanian.

All who donated their time to raise funds for two Nouveau iDEA initiatives; the creation of a scholarship fund that will assist artists seeking to develop their artistic expression through mentorships in cultures other than their own, and to continue to produce events that will promote culturally diverse artists and their work creating an atmosphere where communities can integrate, appreciate and be inspired by art and entertainment from around the world.

Early reports from Unadkat say that the 12:12 gala event was a success and we ready to begin planning our next event with the inclusion of more cultures.

The world-renowned Asha Bhosle, the legendary Indian artiste who selected Birmingham as the home for her first UK based Indian restaurant and bar arrived in Birmingham on Tuesday 24th November 2009 for a press conference to sign a contract transferring the UK master franchise rights to Brandasia Holdings Limited, a company controlled by Paul Bassi and Pawan Kenth.

The top-rated Indian restaurant in the Michelin Guide 2009 for the West Midlands was acquired from Regent Inns who subsequently went into administration, by two of the region’s leading businessmen, Paul Bassi and Pawan Kenth, saving 30 jobs.

Brandasia have now secured the UK master franchise rights to the Dubai-based Asha’s brand – founded by the famous Grammy nominated Indian singer star Asha Bhosle in 2002. Interest to open franchises in London and Manchester have already been received with plans to open a further 10 franchise restaurants over the next five years. The two business men officially signed the contracts with Asha Bhosle and Anand Bhosle (Asha’s son) who is involved in the business side of the franchise.

The pair said there would be a couple of announcements coming up for plans of Asha’s new restaurants around the UK. Both businessmen said ‘We are looking at this very much as a long term business, Asha Bhosle is Bollywood royalty’ Paul Bassi later described the meeting with Bollywood legend Asha Bhosle as a bit like having Madonna and Beyonce all wrapped up in one coming to your restaurant. Asha’s Birmingham restaurant was opened to critical acclaim two years ago following a £1.2 million pound fit out and recently hosted the cast of Slumdog Millionaire, as well as enjoying a loyal following of local celebrities, politicians, business people and professional footballers.

With sister restaurants in Dubai, Qatar, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and Kuwait, others scheduled to open in New Delhi and New York, making Asha’s the only international Indian restaurant in Birmingham. Asha’s has already been inundated with top awards including: Winner: Midlands Curry Awards 2009; Finalist: British Curry Awards 2009; Taste of Birmingham – Best Newcomers 2007; Best in Britain Award – Best Newcomers 2007; British Curry Award – Best Newcomers 2007 and finalist for 2008.

Clothes Show Live reveals that UK women find their “make-up maturity age” at 21 when, after years of experimenting, they find the combination of products that they believe most enhance their natural beauty.

In a survey commissioned by next month’s Clothes Show Live 1,200 women aged between 13-45 were asked about their make-up habits to determine how the use of beauty products changes as a woman’s confidence and make-up proficiency improves with age.

It appears that teenage years spent in front of the mirror trying to replicate looks seen in fashion magazines are well-spent, with most women claiming to have found the perfect combination of products to suit them by the relatively young age of 21.

Clothes Show Live, who commissioned the survey to find out all about women’s attitudes to make-up, have coined the term “make-up maturity age” to describe the age when, after years of experimentation with different combinations of products, a woman finds the combination which she feels most enhances her natural beauty.

OXJAM Music Festival

Superbly stylish and sexy fashion showcasing the latest trends from Designer to High Street stores such as Rituals Jewellery, Peacocks, Moreglam & ISIS…

Oxjam is a music festival with a difference. There are hundreds of events throughout October organized by ordinary people, taking pubs, clubs and front rooms across the UK by storm.

Local Leicester bands and artists are coming together to help fight the devastating impact of climate change and help stamp out poverty in some of the worlds poorest countries.

Rain Entertainment and Barristers are collaborating to hold an Exclusive Fashion Show and Live Music Event to raise money for OXJAM on Thursday 22nd October 2009, doors open at 7.30pm.

Guests will be greeted by a Fire Breather and presented with a complimentary drink on arrival to get them in the mood for the evening.

Dazzling burlesques dancers will be entertaining the audiences in the bar area along with the fashion show. Throughout the evening guests will be entertained by a live Jazz band and an exclusive Fashion Show produced by Rain Entertainment. If that isn’t enough, you will be able to participate in more fundraising activities by playing on the roulette table and taking part in the raffle winning prizes such as Ed Hardy T-Shirts sponsored by ISIS, free meal vouchers sponsored by the well known Bella Italia, Mirch Masala, Cedars and much much more….

Models will be strutting their stuff to the funkiest beats provided by the latest Dj’s adding the finishing touch to the night. Courtesy of Barristers, an after party will carry on the vibe of the night…

Outfits will range from a sexy selection of dresses to hot and sizzling Asian wear. So whether you’re a fan of your casuals, or a romantic inspired look, then head down to Barristers and be ahead of the crowd this season. Also look out for clothing on the catwalk sponsored by Moreglam which will be auctioned on the evening.

All proceeds raised on the evening will go to OXFAM.

So for all you fashionista’s, budding designers, talent scouts and fashion victims, Rain Entertainment and Barristers present to you, an exclusive preview of high street stores and designers.
