Hailing from London, England, Pop/R&B star Jay Sean began honing his craft from an early age and began to explore the possibility of making music a career as he entered college.  With a positive response from friends and the organic development of a fan base that ranged from the UK to South Asia, Jay Sean released his debut album ‘ME AGAINST MY SELF’ in 2004 on digital platforms.  It was then that his music exploded on the internet and he began to tour throughout Europe and Asia.

NEW YORK —  Commemorates the first day of trading in the New Year, Jay Sean had the honor of ringing the closing bell at NASDAQ MarketSite in Times Square on Monday, and MTV News tagged along for the ride with his family, friends and industry colleagues.

It has certainly been a rather meteoric two-year ride for the Brit in America, and in 2011, the Cash Money R&B singer will release his second Stateside album, Freeze Time. At this introspective moment, Sean wrote about his feelings about his past year and the one to come, just for MTV News.

Jay States: ‘I got to work with some of the coolest artists in the world! From Nicki Minaj to Mary J. Blige, last year I shot six music videos, many of which will come out early in 2011, including my duets with Alesha Dixon from the U.K. and Jessica Mauboy in Australia. I also got to do my fourth song with Lil Wayne (FOURTH!!! WTF?!) which featured on his I Am Not A Human Being album!

He told MTV  “My fans also helped me through the lowest point of my life so far. One of my favorite people on Earth left in November, my granddad. He passed away from a stroke, but fortunately I got to hold his hand in his last hours and tell him how much I love him. That taught me something, watching someone take their last few breaths. To take in ALL that we can, because we never know how long it’s all going to last. My granddad’s motto was ‘Don’t worry man, be happy,’ and I want to live like that from now on, to just not sweat the small stuff and be grateful for what we do have. And to just have fun and enjoy it all!!! Life is about the journey, not just the destination, so I take a lot more photos now so that I can remember all the moments. I’m gonna take on 2011 for everything it throws at me and OWN THAT BIYAAATCH!! I ended 2010 with a bang (and a disgusting hangover) by performing in Vegas for NYE and kicked off the New Year by ringing the closing bell on the first day of trading in 2011 at NASDAQ in Times Square, New York — my unfortunate mug on a GIGANTIC screen in the middle of Times Square, right opposite Diddy! Madness!! 2011 is going to be amazing, I can feel it.”

25 Power List.

The British Fashion Council Press Committee has today announced ‘The Power List’ of the 25 most influential people working in Britain’s fashion industry today.

 

 

The list includes designers Alexander McQueen, Christopher Bailey, Hussein Chalayan and John Galliano, models Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, photographer David Bailey and make-up artist Pat McGrath amongst others. As ‘The Power List’ was voted for by the BFC Press Committee, chaired by Lucy Yeomans, it was decided that no press should be included.

The Power List has been created as part of the 25 Years of British Fashion celebrations, the celebrations culminate with the 25th British Fashion Awards which will held tomorrow evening at the Royal Courts of Justice, WC2 and will be attended by 500 industry leaders, celebrities, designers, retailers, models and journalists to celebrate the best of British fashion.

Pakistan Fashion 2009

Pakistan took fashion to the runways this week hoping to promote a more glamorous side of a nation better-known worldwide for violence and militant extremism.

Twice delayed over security concerns, the four-day Fashion Pakistan Week (FPW) opened on Wednesday to show off the wares of 30 of the country’s top designers along with 30 of its top models.

The dash of Milan in the conservative Muslim nation’s financial capital comes against the backdrop of rising attacks by Taliban militants in retaliation to an army offensive against its stronghold in the South Waziristan region on the Afghan border.

“We are being proactive rather than reactive and so the show must go on,” said Rizwan Beyg, a member of Fashion Pakistan and one of the country’s leading designers. “Pakistan is much more than Kalashinkovs and bombs.”

Models strutted in short or backless dresses or showed bare midriffs, as they displayed the brightly coloured designs, which qualified as racy by Pakistani standards.

“Life goes on and we have to live,” said Ayesha Tammy Haq, chief executive of FPW. “We need jobs to continue, we need the job market to grow … fashion is a big thing. Let’s make it bigger.”

Although there is a war going on in Pakistan and FPW could be a target, most of those present seemed relaxed, even if there was some concern before the show began.

“I am definitely scared,” said Nadia Hussain, one Pakistan’s top female models, as she got ready to take to the runway.

Katrina Kaif & Ranbir Kapoor

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif sashayed down the ramp at the grand finale of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) for designer Rohit Bal, bringing down the curtains on the five-day event in style on Wednesday (Oct 28) night.

Dressed in an embroidered white sherwani, Ranbir managed to steal the hearts of many girls in the audience, who couldn’t stop gushing about the star’s chocolaty looks. Pretty Katrina Kaif, attired in a short white dress, looked like a Barbie doll.

Since Bal is always associated with grandeur, the sets reflected flamboyance and style.

The glass ramp had gold lotus flowers underneath. The main show area was draped with golden curtains.

Complementing the ambience perfectly were the clothes that talked about the Mughal era when India was the land of maharajas (kings).

The collection was appropriately called Yasas, which means grand in Sanskrit.

Talking about his collection, Bal said: “The collection is a reflection of incredible talent that we have in India in terms of artisans and craftsmanship. The line is an ode to India’s rich heritage.”

“It is about India, which was once known as the ‘Golden Peacock’. Through this line, I am bringing that golden era back to India,” he added.

The collection had a mix of brocades, velvets in the pre-Mughal and Mughal designs like long and short anarkalis, sherwanis, jodhpuri pants, dresses and long coats.

The collection will also be retailed through Wills Lifestyle outlets across India.

Kareena actually looked good and cheerful, dressed in a pale pink velvet long skirt with heavy silver leaf embroidery; and silver metallic sleeveless top with deep V-neckline and multiple pearl strings in the front. Her long layered cut hair, set in waves, draped her shoulders from a middle parting. Sans jewelry, she wore pink lip gloss and charcoal eye shadow – a departure from her raccoon eye liner.

Nephew Punit Malhotra is impressed: Manish’s show rocked last night… as he gets ready to team up with the designer for his directorial debut I Hate Love Stories starring Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor.

Hitting hard at the rumors of split of one of the b-town’s hottest couple of ‘married bachelor’ Hrithik Roshan and Suzanne Khan, the latter fly-kissed her hottie while doing a ramp walk at India Couture Week.

Suzanne air kissed Hrithik as she walked down the ramp for her sister and jewellery designer Farah Khan.

Rumors were that Hrithik and Suzanne had a fight over the so called link-ups of Barbara Mori, Hrithik’s co-star in his forthcoming flick “Kites”. But the two were seen happy and together and also presented their bonding in a way that mesmerized crowd and of course Hrithik too in a unique manner.

An E2010 Spring/Summer show scheduled for October 24-29, 2009 reveals a change of venue

  Dubai, UAE, 16 August, 2009: Organisers of Dubai Fashion Week (DFW), Concept Events, today announced the Spring/Summer 2010 (SS10) season will be showcased at the InterContinental Dubai Festival City between October 24th – 29th this year.

The change of venue, in response to the success of the Fall/Winter show, will accommodate larger crowds including buyers, media and guests who are expected to attend and experience more than 35 designer collections at this edition. Designers participating are from around GCC & South Asia.

Last season’s popular designers including Walid Atallah, Reem Ali Beljafla, HSY, Aly Fawaz, Amal Murad, Salma Khan and Mariam Al Mazro are returning, much to the anticipation of buyers, media and fashionistas and many new collections will also be showcased. Several designers showcasing for the first time at DFW include Furne One, Siddarth Tytler, Michael Cinco & Beenas. Collections will range from couture to prêt à porter.

Karachi Fashion Week 2009

The promotional ceremony of Karachi Fashion Week 2009 was launched at a local hotel on Tuesday. Karachi Fashion Week 2009, the four day fashion event that is going to be held from October 15 to 18 at Golf Club, will be hosted by Fashion Pakistan in collaboration with an event management company Triple E.

 

The launch was a part of promotional measures to provide people with regular updates and information on the event and its participants.

The ceremony was headed by Fashion Pakistan C.E.O, Ayesha Tammy, Arshad Siddiqui (Triple-E collaborator) and Sultana Siddiqui (Chairperson of Hum TV).

Ayesha Tammy said on the occasion that their efforts meant “to encourage, promote and facilitate the development and growth of the fashion industry in Pakistan, make it competitive in the international market, and also to build on relationships with buyers and foreign designers to promote investment”. She explained that during Fashion Week (October 15 to 18), they would not only observe works of famous designers like Maheen Karim, Maheen Khan, Rizwan Beyg, Deepak Parwani, Adnan Qardesi and Shamael Ansari, but would also encourage emerging designers”.

She added that they would showcase the best of Pakistani fashion and established designers would share the runaway with new and emerging talent in the categories of couture, prêt, men’s wear and women’s wear.

Ayesha Tammy said that Memorandums of Understanding had been signed with several international fashion institutions and she hoped to present the collection of one international designer each day of the Fashion Week.

She added that though Fashion Week was purely a fashion show, they hoped that in the future they would provide vocational training for emerging designers and hold workshops for fashion journalists.

The ceremony was attended by many famous fashion related personalities. Acclaimed designer Maheen Khan and Fashion journalists Zurain Imam, were present also present on the occasion

Pakistani Fashion

Farhan Khan, a drummer in a band, is taking a break from performing. This move was prompted by his mother, who worries that her son might become a target for the Islamic extremists gradually asserting their power in this city.

 

In recent months, as theaters have been bombed, art festivals interrupted, and musicians targeted, Mr. Khan has learned firsthand about the rising level of hostility toward his profession.

“Once, I was walking down a street: I wear my hair long and was wearing tattered jeans,” he says. “As I neared a corner, I came across a bearded man who gave me a dirty look and then scowled at me.”

The third annual Dubai Fashion Week (DFW) kicked off on Sunday, but designers and buyers have complained that the event does not generate enough business for them.

While the buyers at the London Fashion Week in September last year placed $19.8 million in orders, the company behind Dubai’s fashion week, Concept Events, said it does not know how much was sold at the Dubai

event. One designer, Aiisha Ramadan, said she did not sell anything at all.

Dubai Fashion Week is the region’s flagship fashion trade event and focuses on offering retail buyers, fashion professionals and media an exclusive preview of the season’s upcoming collections and trends, thus generating publicity and revenue for the fashion industry.

The 15th edition of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2010, started off with a bang in the capital

 

New Delhi: After the first day no-show, the 15th edition of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WLIFW) Autumn-Winter 2010, started off with a bang in the capital. Showstoppers Tarun Tahilliani, Ritu Kumar,Rohit Gandhi & Rahul Khanna, Rocky S, Gaurav Gupta and others showcased their collections on day two and three.

The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) announced that 29th March as the Grand Fashion Day to conclude the 15th edition of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week. Designers Little Shilpa, Nida Mahmood, Alpana Neeraj, Atsu Sekhose, Rahul Mishra, Rahul Reddy, Monapali, Swapan and Seema, Ranna Gill, Ritu Beri and JJ Valaya will be showcasing their collections.

Milan Fashion.

SPAIN. Spanish fashion brand Mango will open its new flagship store in Milan on 27 March, on the top shopping street Corso Vittorio Emanuele II. The store will be Mango’s 28th in the Italian market.

“With this project, Mango reflects its commitment towards the Italian market, a priority for the brand, given its importance within the fashion market,” the company said.

Between 2008 and 2009, the company increased its turnover by +23% and opened six new stores during this period.

The store has 775sq m of selling space. The project, designed by Mango’s interior design team led by Damián Sánchez, Creative Director and Board Member Partner, covers three floors. Two floors are dedicated to womenswear, and one to the H.E. by Mango men’s range.

The minimalist concept combines all its elements in the same tone of grey: floors, ceiling, furniture and illumination structures. To give the store a fresh and elegant touch, the walls are covered in natural wood panels.

Real Estate Manager and Deputy General Manager Daniel López said: “This opening is of great importance to Mango, as it reflects the commitment of the brand with the Italian market. Having a new flagship store in an excellent location like Corso Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan was always a priority. It will mean a better presence and visibility of Mango in Italy.”

Located in Al Mina Road, JYK features nine established and upcoming designers including Celebrity designer labels Shahid Afridi, Salma Khan, Sanskriti, Najibah Pandor, Mariam Al Mazro, Homa Qamar, Anam Sohail, Aartivijay Gupta and Ayesha Shiraz. The boutique is officially now open to the public.

Malik, told friends he was leaving for Pakistan “on a personal visit to Pakistan. He said  he would get a  Nikaah [marriage] in an proper way according to Islamic tenets,” he pledged.

Mushaal is worried about what her fiance’s militant comrades would think, and says they will probably think of it as pornographic. Her paintings may not seem controversial in the West, but in Pakistan where Taliban militants have bombed girls’ schools, murdered dancing girls, and destroyed music and video shops in recent weeks, they are explosive.

 
On her website, Mushaal, 28, says she began painting as a child, and her current work reveals a fascination with the striking faces and voluptuous curves of green-eyed Pakistani women. She shows her works at carefully selected exhibitions in the country and donates proceeds of sales to charities supporting women’s causes. She comes from a distinguished establishment family in Pakistan, where her father was a university professor and her mother a women’s leader of the powerful Pakistan Muslim League.

JKLF leader Yasin Malik, 42, is said to have met and fallen in love with Mushaal at a conference in Pakistan. He missed his engagement ceremony last October when he was jailed for agitating for an election boycott. Shahidul Islam, Yasin’s friend said “Marriage is always a personal decision. As far as I know Mushaal is a well-known painter and if she finds her paintings as a way of expression, there is nothing wrong,”
