Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif sashayed down the ramp at the grand finale of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) for designer Rohit Bal, bringing down the curtains on the five-day event in style on Wednesday (Oct 28) night.

Dressed in an embroidered white sherwani, Ranbir managed to steal the hearts of many girls in the audience, who couldn’t stop gushing about the star’s chocolaty looks. Pretty Katrina Kaif, attired in a short white dress, looked like a Barbie doll.

Since Bal is always associated with grandeur, the sets reflected flamboyance and style.

The glass ramp had gold lotus flowers underneath. The main show area was draped with golden curtains.

Complementing the ambience perfectly were the clothes that talked about the Mughal era when India was the land of maharajas (kings).

The collection was appropriately called Yasas, which means grand in Sanskrit.

Talking about his collection, Bal said: “The collection is a reflection of incredible talent that we have in India in terms of artisans and craftsmanship. The line is an ode to India’s rich heritage.”

“It is about India, which was once known as the ‘Golden Peacock’. Through this line, I am bringing that golden era back to India,” he added.

The collection had a mix of brocades, velvets in the pre-Mughal and Mughal designs like long and short anarkalis, sherwanis, jodhpuri pants, dresses and long coats.

The collection will also be retailed through Wills Lifestyle outlets across India.

Kareena Kapoor and boyfriend Saif Ali Khan were the showstoppers for Bollywood favorite Manish Malhotra’s fashion show at India Couture Week in Mumbai on October 14.

 
Kareena actually looked good and cheerful, dressed in a pale pink velvet long skirt with heavy silver leaf embroidery; and silver metallic sleeveless top with deep V-neckline and multiple pearl strings in the front. Her long layered cut hair, set in waves, draped her shoulders from a middle parting. Sans jewelry, she wore pink lip gloss and charcoal eye shadow – a departure from her raccoon eye liner.

Hitting hard at the rumors of split of one of the b-town’s hottest couple of ‘married bachelor’ Hrithik Roshan and Suzanne Khan, the latter fly-kissed her hottie while doing a ramp walk at India Couture Week.

Suzanne air kissed Hrithik as she walked down the ramp for her sister and jewellery designer Farah Khan.

Rumors were that Hrithik and Suzanne had a fight over the so called link-ups of Barbara Mori, Hrithik’s co-star in his forthcoming flick “Kites”. But the two were seen happy and together and also presented their bonding in a way that mesmerized crowd and of course Hrithik too in a unique manner.

Deepika Padukone, A-list starlet and the most graceful actress of Indian cinema, recently wowed fashionista at the Lakme Fashion Week when she walked the ramp for designers Nanika and Gauri.

The collection, which incorporated the timeless elegance of Hollywood heroines, was further enhanced by Deepika’s classic looks, perfectly capturing the aura of spellbinding charm and glamour that the designers were hoping to create.

Deepika also walked the ramp for designer Manish Malhotra at the Videocon Youth Icon Awards where the gorgeous supermodel’s striking features and inimitable sense of style were recognized by the award for Fashion Icon of the Year. The awards recognize and reward individual excellence and exemplary achievement in the fields of business, sports, media, social welfare and justice, technology, arts, politics, fashion and entertainment.

The 15th edition of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2010, started off with a bang in the capital

 

New Delhi: After the first day no-show, the 15th edition of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WLIFW) Autumn-Winter 2010, started off with a bang in the capital. Showstoppers Tarun Tahilliani, Ritu Kumar,Rohit Gandhi & Rahul Khanna, Rocky S, Gaurav Gupta and others showcased their collections on day two and three.

The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) announced that 29th March as the Grand Fashion Day to conclude the 15th edition of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week. Designers Little Shilpa, Nida Mahmood, Alpana Neeraj, Atsu Sekhose, Rahul Mishra, Rahul Reddy, Monapali, Swapan and Seema, Ranna Gill, Ritu Beri and JJ Valaya will be showcasing their collections.

‘Mijwan- Sonnets in Fabric – A Fashion show with a Difference’ has been conceived as an Inter-collegiate fashion contest for Best Student Designer 2009, thereby giving an opportunity to GEN NEXT from 5 leading Fashion and Design Institutes to be mentored by Manish Malhotra and myself.

The best 50 creations will be showcased on the ramp by leading filmstars and professional models at, The Leela Kempinski in Mumbai on 15th Dec 2009.

It is an incredible opportunity for the students to build their portfolios.
The filmstars are Youth Icons and by agreeing to walk the ramp for ‘MIJWAN- SONNETS IN FABRIC- a fashion show with a difference ‘ they give a huge boost to the students plus help raise funds and increase visibility for MWS for its future programs…

Several Bollywood biggies attended the GQ Men of the Year awards held on Sunday in Mumbai. The winners included Abhay Deol, Karan Johar, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Katrina Kaif, Amitabh Bachchan and many more.

In conversation with Vogue, Kareena shares her love for food, Saif and her family. “Saif and I are mirror images. Like me, he’s a bit eccentric.

We are very similar and that works for us. Of course, if both of us are in a bad mood, then I have to be the mature one, even though he is 10 years older.

I think that’s a woman thing. That’s why we are so special.”

“We are being proactive rather than reactive and so the show must go on,” said Rizwan Beyg, a member of Fashion Pakistan and one of the country’s leading designers. “Pakistan is much more than Kalashinkovs and bombs.”

Models strutted in short or backless dresses or showed bare midriffs, as they displayed the brightly coloured designs, which qualified as racy by Pakistani standards.

“Life goes on and we have to live,” said Ayesha Tammy Haq, chief executive of FPW. “We need jobs to continue, we need the job market to grow … fashion is a big thing. Let’s make it bigger.”

Although there is a war going on in Pakistan and FPW could be a target, most of those present seemed relaxed, even if there was some concern before the show began.

“I am definitely scared,” said Nadia Hussain, one Pakistan’s top female models, as she got ready to take to the runway.

Desimag caught with Miss Pakistan 2008.. Lets find out what she’s up to since last year!

DESIMAG: How did you come to hear about this pageant in the first place?

Miss P: I first heard about the pageant through my mother. She encouraged me to apply as Miss Pakistan would prove to be a good platform for young women, like myself, wanting to make a difference. I did some research on the Miss Pakistan pageant and came to know that it had only been in its 6th year. Every year the pageant continues to grow and is an avenue for young women to strive to educate others about our dynamic and vibrant country.

DESIMAG:  Name 5 goals you consider important to you in your  life?

Miss P: Family, Career, Health, Wealth, and Worldliness. I think it’s important to find a balance in life, and if  I hope to be successful enough in achieving all of these. Family is the most important thing in my life and always comes first.  If you have a happy family than everything else will fall into place.  

DESIMAG:  What is your biggest strength and inspiration outside of your family?

Miss P: Outside of my family, my biggest strength is my faith in god. Religion for me has been a great part of my life and has helped me grow to be a stronger individual; not only in my daily life, but also in pursuing my aspirations.

DESIMAG:  What kind of response did you receive from the Pakistani community after you won the Miss Pakistan World Title?

Miss P: The Pakistani community has been very supportive of my title as Miss Pakistan World. I have been approached by various community leaders and philanthropists in joining hands with their causes.

DESIMAG:  Are you single? If so when are you planning to get married?

Miss P:I am single and currently focused on my career and immediate family. I hope to find a person who is honest, intelligent, kind-hearted, hardworking and most importantly, humble.

DESIMAG:   What would you consider the 5 most important characteristics are, that should be present in a winning such a pageant?   

Miss P: Dedication, Motivation,  Strong character, Confident personality, and Charisma. 

DESIMAG: Would you consider offers to work with artists based around the world in general, to help and promote woman in a positive manner from around the world?

Miss P: I think that is a wonderful idea. We should not limit ourselves by putting up boundaries and borders. Collaberating with people of  diverse nationalities is the most inspirational and effective way to spread a message.

DESIMAG.  If you had not been selected, what would your choice of career be today?

Miss P: If I had not been selected as Miss Pakistan, I would have taken away a wonderful experience and continue to persue my career in foreign relations at the United Nations.

DESIMAG: What career did your parents have in mind for you?  Did you always want to represent Pakistan as a country and become an ambassador?

Miss P: My parents have taught me to pursue my interests, no matter what they may be. My siblings and I have been given the responsibilty of choosing our own career path and making sure that we are successful in whatever we may chose to do.  This has helped us build strong character and develop our strengths. I have always wanted to become involved in representing Pakistan as that is where I have come from.  At University, I founded the Pakistani Students Association and our membership grew to nearly 200 within the first year alone. Miss Pakistan World has given me the outlet to be a true representative of our country.

DESIMAG:  What is your level of education? Do you consider education to be important in life, and does this factor contribute towards your success?

Miss P: I graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 2005 with a Bacholars degree. I hope to pursue my Masters in Human Rights in the coming years. Education is a vital element for all of us, and I strive to promote educational rights in developing countries.

DESIMAG: What are we to expect from Miss Pakistan World in the future?

Miss P: Currently I work for the Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Organization at the United Nations where we aim to introduce new and innovative technologies to the developing world. In addition to this, I design luxury watches for FUEL. I hope to develop the brand globally and incorporate the importance of  clean technology through promotion of the brand.

DESIMAG:  Have you met any famous people after representing Pakistan? If so who?

Miss P: I have met various Pakistani artists during my reign as Miss Pakistan World.  

DESIMAG: Who is your role model other than your Mother?

Miss P: I have been fortunate enough to have many role models throughout my life. One of my greatest inspirations has been (foreign female leader)

DESIMAG: Desimag is aware of the fact that you have started a non- profit organisation, called ‘Vision Of Development’ which is there to help and uplift women in rural areas of Pakistan. Desimag would like to congratulate you for undertaking such great work and working hard to improve the facilities out there for the Pakistani’s. Could you please tell us how that is running, where Vision of Development is based and which areas have worked on in particular i.e. medical etc?

Miss P: Vision of Development is an organization that I founded with my mother in 2000 after visiting our villages near the Islamabad/Murree region. Much of this land is underdeveloped, with no running water, electricity or paved roads. With the help of funding from Non-Resident Pakistanis, we have slowly and steadily begun to develop these villages. Also, we have identified the need for primary education for young children and the issue of  proper sanitation.

DESIMAG:  What made you want to represent Pakistan at a world wide level; would you consider this to be a challenge?

Miss P: wanted to represent Pakistan on a global scale because I saw it as an opportunity to be an inspiration not only for young Pakistani women, but for the youth as a whole. By setting an example of hard work and dedication, we can all achieve our goals and aspirations.  It’s not easy; it takes a lot of hard work and persistence.

DESIMAG:  What advice would you give to those who wish to enter for the pageant in 2009 is it a lot of hard work and commitment?
