25 Power List.

The British Fashion Council Press Committee has today announced ‘The Power List’ of the 25 most influential people working in Britain’s fashion industry today.

 

 

The list includes designers Alexander McQueen, Christopher Bailey, Hussein Chalayan and John Galliano, models Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, photographer David Bailey and make-up artist Pat McGrath amongst others. As ‘The Power List’ was voted for by the BFC Press Committee, chaired by Lucy Yeomans, it was decided that no press should be included.

The Power List has been created as part of the 25 Years of British Fashion celebrations, the celebrations culminate with the 25th British Fashion Awards which will held tomorrow evening at the Royal Courts of Justice, WC2 and will be attended by 500 industry leaders, celebrities, designers, retailers, models and journalists to celebrate the best of British fashion.

Osman Yousefzada has created a distinctive and confident signature for his label. By combining innovative cutting with masterful drapery he crafts desirable timeless garments in the most luxurious fabrics.

Osman designs through instinct, his pieces reflect a deep-rooted design sensibility. British born Osman Yousefzada, was making clothes from a young age. His mother, who ran a couture dress making business in Birmingham, is where Osman cemented his love for cloth and its workmanship.

Osman Yousefzada went on to study Fashion Design at Central St Martins before launching his own label in Sept 2005. The conflict between tradition and modernity creates an interesting paradox within Yousefzada’s design solutions.  The clothes are exceptionally precise, well tailored and finished but are softened with sensuous draping that is inspired by his interest in ethnicity and costume of ancient cultures. 

Osman’s essence in his work is to capture a moment in the draping, wrapping or tying of a fabric and give it a voice in tailoring, bring the lines into tailored lines.

This contradiction creates simple yet highly intelligent and directional pieces. Yousefzada succeeds in making beautiful, resonant clothes that are at once both unusual and distinctive, drawing the eye to the universally attractive elements of a woman’s body. 

Osman was nominated for the annual Designs of Year 2007 award at the Design Museum, which features the best 100 designs internationally, selected from all design disciplines (including architecture, fashion, product design, graphics, furniture, transport, and interactive works).  His co-nominees in the fashion section were Issey Miyake, Jil Sander, Dior, Giles Deacon, and Pierre Hardy.

In addition, 2008 was the launch of one of the most successful and critically acclaimed high street collaborations of the year – Osman Yousefzada’s Little Black Dress collection for Mango, which was sold over 203 stores, and in 35 countries worldwide.  2009 saw the renowned authority on haute couture and vintage fashion, Didier Ludot showcased Osman’s work in the windows of his venerated Palais Royal boutique in Paris. Osman designs were displayed alongside the 20th Century masters of Haute Couture such as Montana and Mugler, thereby creating a dazzling dialogue between the past and the present. This season Osman presented his debut jewellery collection, launched exclusively by Astley Clarke.

Clothes Show Live reveals women would choose a shopping trip with Cheryl Cole over a date with their ideal man

The truth is out – research for Clothes Show Live reveals that women love shopping more than men

In an exhaustive national survey of women’s attitudes to shopping, Clothes Show Live found that women would prefer to bag their ideal shopping purchase than bag their ideal man.

Over 1,000 women who will be attending Clothes Show Live, the UK’s largest fashion and beauty event taking place from 4-9 December, Birmingham NEC, were surveyed in the research to coincide with this December’s event.

The study found that:

• 76% of women said bagging their ideal shopping purchase made them happier than bagging their ideal man

• 64% of women would prefer to go shopping with Cheryl Cole than go on a date with their ideal man

•Going on a date with their ideal man and picking up their ideal purchase both produced similar physiological responses such as; feeling excited; happy; and irrational as they need to get that must havepurchase/man.

• Women, on average, go shopping with their friends once a month and with their boyfriend/partner twice a year

• Women, on average, spend £137 on a shopping trip and spend, on average, just £68 on their boyfriend/partners birthday present/s

• 58% of respondents were more disappointed when their favourite item was out of stock than if they were stood up on a date.

“Women have been flocking to Clothes Show Live for the past 20 years and have been having a fantastic time doing so.

This study goes to show the enjoyment women get out of shopping,” Gavin Brown, Managing Director, Clothes Show Live.

Clothes Show Live reveals that UK women find their “make-up maturity age” at 21 when, after years of experimenting, they find the combination of products that they believe most enhance their natural beauty.

In a survey commissioned by next month’s Clothes Show Live 1,200 women aged between 13-45 were asked about their make-up habits to determine how the use of beauty products changes as a woman’s confidence and make-up proficiency improves with age.

It appears that teenage years spent in front of the mirror trying to replicate looks seen in fashion magazines are well-spent, with most women claiming to have found the perfect combination of products to suit them by the relatively young age of 21.

Clothes Show Live, who commissioned the survey to find out all about women’s attitudes to make-up, have coined the term “make-up maturity age” to describe the age when, after years of experimentation with different combinations of products, a woman finds the combination which she feels most enhances her natural beauty.
