Working alongside Manchester-based producer, Surinder Rattan and his Canadian hip-hop co-star Blitzkrieg, Roach is well on the way to matching the success he enjoyed with ‘Yara Dil Dara’ which retained the top spot on the BBC Asian Network chart for many weeks.

Asian reggae artist, Roach Killa kicks off his assault into 2010 with the release of the video to the awesome tune ‘Ghora’, the third delivery from his debut album ‘THE REVOLUTION’.

Roach Killa’s popularity has led to him being chosen to perform live at the opening ceremony of the Winter Games in Canada later this year! Performing alongside the likes of singer/songwriter Justin Hines and pop rocker Fefe Dobson has also gained him great media interest.

Plans are afoot for a tour across Europe, India and Pakistan. More to come soon!

Pop mogul Simon Cowell said he was proud of Boyle and added that the success could not have happened to a nicer person.

JOG is Pakistan-Uk based band and their newest release is “Kaisa Ehsaas” which is semi-classical with Rock blend.

The idea of “JOG” came into existence when Shaan who is the lead vocalist and Initiator of the band returned after completing his studies from UK.

His major was Computer Sciences but passion of music tuned him to lay the bases of “JOG” band.

La Roux.

La Roux is a young lady who makes modern-sounding electronic pop music.

This has not escaped the attention of Kitsune whose new compilation, ‘Kitsune Maison 6′, is their best yet, and features La Roux’s song ‘Quicksand’. Kitsune are also releasing La Roux’s contribution as a single in November, before Polydor take over and work their magic in the new year. You can hear ‘Quicksand’ and some other tracks on La Roux’s MySpace, www.myspace.com/larouxuk, but there’s bigger stuff to come.

Other bits:

1. Her real name is Elly Jackson.

2. She is managed by the same people as Klaxons (and Sean Conlon) (?!?!).

3. Her MySpace blogs include a string of misleading statements and downright lies along the lines of “I went for a ride in my disco ice cream van”. (La-so-called-’Roux’ does not even own a normal ice cream van, let alone a disco one.)

File this one under pop music that sounds like dance music/dance music that sounds like pop music, alongside Little Boots, Frankmusik and Lady Ga Ga, although La Roux’s own influences include Michael Jackson, The Knife, Human League, Talk Talk and CSS. The whole thing also has the feel – in a completely positive way – of an east London Lily Allen (even though La Roux is from Brixton) and one would expect to see La Roux on quite a few of the ‘Big For 2009′ features as they start rolling in around the end of the year. That said, she’s already big for 2008 at Popjustice HQ and there’s no reason she can’t already go on your own People I Enjoy Listening To Quite A Lot lists right now. Oh, and don’t be scared off by how sort-of-cool this might appear now, it’s still at the boring ‘tastemaking’ stage etc

We Caught up with Pakistani Pop Princess, Hadiqa Kiani who is releasing hernew album ”Aasman” this year. Lets found out more about what she’s up to and more about the album!

DESIMAG: In what year did you start your career as a Pakistani singer?

Hadiqa: Early 90s (officially my first album was released in 96)

DESIMAG:  Tell us more about you’re music, you’re very well known in the UK and around the world too, who are your main influences?

Hadiqa: My music keeps evolving with time, have lot of influences as I grew up listening 2 beegees, Olivia Newton john, donna summer, pink floyd, ,carpenters etc and over the years not forgetting whitney Houston, u2, Bonnie ratt, Sheryl crow, tori amos, alanis moressete and now a days I listen 2 different types of music (world music, RnB etc).

Other than the western music influences, I really like listening 2 the classical singers like Ustad salamat ali khan (of sham chorasee gharana),Roshan ara begum, and Pundit Ajoy Chikorbarti, folk singers like  Tufail niazi and Abida Perveen, ghazal singers like Mehdi hassan and Fareeda Khanam, Qawwals like nusrat fateh ali khan and Sabri brothers, play back singers like Kishor Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Madam Noor Jehan ( specially her old songs and ghazals), Pop singers like Nazia Hassan, Mile Stones and vital signs.

DESIMAG: Tell us about‘boohey barian’ which was a huge mega success in the UK, and remained in the UK charts for a long time?

Hadiqa: ”Boohey Barian” was written by my mother so its quite precious 2 me it  was a phenomenon and there was no specific theory behind it. Irfan composed it when I sung this song in the studio Irfan liked my 1st take after that just for my satisfaction I gave few more vocal takes but in the end we both approved the 1st one as it just touch our hearts.

After that I came up with my rung album and did few experiments…I always believe that one should be true to ones self and keep exploring and evolving.. I also did an alternative rock english album “rough Cut”, with the music maestro Aamir zaki and I loved the experience of the whole project.

DESIMAG: You shot the video “Mehr Ma” in 2006 with the awesome UK based music producer and song lyricist Khiza, how did you first meet Khiza?

Hadiqa: I met khiza through a common friend of Irfan and me “Zab Khan” (from the BBC). I have always loved working with him.

DESIMAG: Full name and where are you from in Pakistan?

Hadiqa: Hadiqa kiani; I’m 4rm Rawalpindi, there were few hardships but I had full support of my family all the way Mashallah and I feel blessed.

DESIMAG: Are you related to anyone in the music industry?

Hadiqa: Nope I’m not related 2 any1 in the music scene except 4 my brother whose a gr8 musician!

DESIMAG: Have you performed outside of Pakistan, If so which countries?

Hadiqa: Yea I have: America, Canada, UK, Australia, Norway, Japan, China, Brunei, Malaysia, Turkey, Jordan, Dubai, Bulgaria and India.

DESIMAG:  Has your life changed since you have become a singer?

Hadiqa: Obviously life changes when you enter in any profession and it demands hard work and dedication…so yes being a singer, it requires time and attention but the best part is that I love what I’m doing and enjoy my work as a musician;)

DESIMAG: Which Artist’s would you like to work with in the future?

Hadiqa: I haven’t planned it yet but definitely would love 2 do collaborate with Irfan (lala) again and also my sister Sasha

DESIMAG: How do your lyrics reflect on your life, is there a deeper message you wish to portray?

Hadiqa: Of course lyrics of my albums reflect my life and my emotions…

DESIMAG: What is your level of education?  Do you consider education to be important in life and how has this helped you in you’re music career as a singer?

Hadiqa: I’m masters in psychology and I guess that has helped me 2 know people on a deeper level.  I believe education is v. important 2 help get 2 know who u r and what u want in life.

DESIMAG: Where do you see your career as a singer in next 3 years?

Hadiqa: I believe in living in the Moment

DESIMAG:  For a female vocalist you are a versatile singer, you have your own unique melodic voice. How many languages can you sing in altogether & can I add; you’re Punjabi is really sweet.

Hadiqa: Well thnx 4 your appreciationJ I can sing in Urdu, Punjabi, Saraiki, Pushto, Kashmiri (Dogri), and Balochi.  Other than our regional languages, I have sung in Malay, Turkish, Chinese, Arabic, Persian and English.

DESIMAG: ‘Aasmaan’ has been release, tell desimag.co.uk what the album is about, and have you shoot any video’s for this?

Hadiqa: My album ‘Aasmaan’ has been released on the 17^th of June 2009, it’s an RnB album with a few dance tracks.  I have shot 4 videos.

DESIMAG: What is  you’re biggest achievement to date? We are aware of the fact that you are the brand ambassador of Soul Collections who have produced the world’s first reversible shoe, how does that make you feel?

Hadiqa: I was honoured by one of the highest civil Awards of my country i.e Tamga-i-Imtaz by the govt of Pakistan.Soul Collections is a gr8 brand and I’m proud 2 be a part of such a high quality company. I had been a brand Ambassador for various brands in the past such as Pepsi, Lipton, Sunsilk , PEL, Ponds (currently ), LG-Mobiles (currently) 

 DESIMAG: What do you fear the most in life?

Hadiqa: Loosing my loved ones!

DESIMAG: Could you tell your fans a bit more about your son Naadey Ali, does he show signs of becoming a great singer like his mother?

Hadiqa: Well indeed he is showing me signs of loving music specially he loves 2 play drums I’m not gonna impose anything on 2 him and will let him be himself and support him no matter what Inshallah

DESIMAG: What projects are you currently involved in at present? Are you working alongside any major fashion designers?

Hadiqa: I’m 1 of the judges on LG(ABS) (1st student singing competition) along with The gr8 producer Nizar Lalani and a fantastic Music teacher Salamat Ali from National Academy of Performing Arts…I am recently signed as the brand ambassador of LG Gm-200 along with Shehzad Roy. I prefer designing clothes for myself along with my nephew, niece and bhabi.

DESIMAG: What’s you’re favourite dish, and  favourite  restaurant?

Hadiqa: Green Thai prawn curry  or any nicely cooked food….. could be any restaurant. 

DESIMAG: What is you’re idea of a perfect holiday?

Hadiqa: Well since I don’t do a 9 to 5 job so for me holiday seems like a funny idea;) any day when u can have fun eat, cook spend quality time with your family and have a big fat smile on your face ))))

DESIMAG: When will you be next be performing in the  Uk?

Hadiqa: Ill be touring soon Inshallah but regarding the dates I’m not sure 

DESIMAG: You are to appear as a judge in a music Reality Show on GEO TV how were you approached for this?

Beyonce in London

Sitting two feet away from Ciara and the middle stage we were more than excited to see Beyonce. Fans noticed the star and immediately stared screaming and taking pictures…before her bodyguard came along and ruined the fun but she did stand up and say hi and later got a mention from Beyonce announcing to the rest of the crowd that Ciara was in the audience.

The show was opened by UK artist Iris and then a surprise performance from Shontelle!! The Bastian beauty sand her hit T-shirt, her collaboration with Akon stuck (she joked before singing this that we were waiting for Beyonce but was Stuck with her for now..very clever!) Shontelle also treated us to a rendition of the hit dancehall song Roll It, telling us ” I’m gonna show ya’ll how we party in Barbados where i come from.”

An excited crowd cheered for her as she left the stage and waited for queen B. It felt like ages but about half an hour later, Beyonce hit the stage looking amazing and the crowd went wild. She performed hit after hit for just over two hours with no interval (the girl just kept going!)
 
We were treated to a screening of Bey as a child singing, people all over the world including Justin Timberlake and Barack Obama doing the single ladies dance! A robotic futuristic (animated) video was screened to us during “Sweet Dreams” and we can confirm that Bey looked even hotter as a cartoon!

Natasha Khan

Natasha Khan’s Bat for Lashes is apparently one of the exciting new talents to come out of the British pop music industry in recent times.

 

Born in Wembley in 1979, her father is Rahmat Khan, who coached his cousin Jahangir throughout an illustrious career. Having moved from Pakistan to the UK when he was 20, Rahmat met Natasha’s mother, Josie, at Wembley Squash Centre, where she was working as a receptionist.

Having formally pursued a degree in music, the singer/songwriter/musician is known for her weirdly haunting and enchanting music, the content of which is likened to Grimms fairytales, and for her equally eccentric sense of style she prefers wearing bands and headdresses, glitter and body paint while performing — the influence is now being felt among those who follow her.

She plays a variety of instruments which includes the glockenspiel, piano, harp, guitar (has recently picked up the bass) and enjoys playing percussion and drumming although she once stated that ‘I usually speak with all my drummers so that I write my songs with them in mind, and we’ll have bass sounds, choir sounds, and then you can multi-task with all these orchestral sounds. Through the magic medium of technology I can play all kinds of sounds, double bass and stuff.’

She released her debut album Fur and Gold in 2006 and in 2007 it was nominated for the Mercury Prize. She was also one of the nominees for Best Breakthrough Act and Best British Female in the Brit Awards 2008. Her single, What’s a Girl to do, was the first to introduce her into British pop prominence. She was largely unnoticed before being nominated for the Mercury Award and mentioned in The Guardian that dealing with fame ‘allowed me to get used to the idea of opening your dressing gown in front of lots of people.’

DESIMAG: When did you start singing?

Kee: I started singing in my early teens but professionally I would say it’s been just over a year now. I am still getting to know the industry.

DESIMAG: Tell us a bit more about you’re music, you’re known as the first Hindi pop rock artist to hit the UK, who is your main influences?

Kee: I would describe my music as being very fresh and current. Fusing Hindi with pop/rock and a big dose of British attitude! To name a few, my main influences are legends like Asha Bhosle, Lata Mangeshkar, and more recent artists like Atif Aslam and Himesh Reshammiya.

DESIMAG: How did you get involved in the music scene?

Kee: My friends and family always encouraged me to take it further. But it wasn’t until I wrote my first song and realised I actually had potential. I then took vocal training and continued writing. It isn’t a straight road and you do meet some false people along the way who waste your time. But you learn and move on, now I can filter them out quite easily. Facebook is an amazing networking tool.

 I have met so many decent people from the music industry on there who are now very close friends of mine. One being my manager Rani Joshi, we instantly connected and are now part of Royal Music Management.

DESIMAG: Your single ‘Baby baby’ produced by Brass tax, tell us more?

Kee: Brass Tax is another good friend of mine and I have appreciated his music for a long time. He is also a hip-hop artist and his productions are very hard hitting. It was more of an experiment to see how we could combine the two styles and we ended up with a cocktail of futuristic sounds merged with creamy vocals.

 The song is written by myself and it’s about a man who is about to leave his girl for good. How love can just disappear. It’s all based on one scene capturing the kind of conversations that would take place in that situation.

DESIMAG: What is your full name and where are you from?

Kee: My full name is Kiran Dass and I am from Coventry, which is in the West Midlands.

DESIMAG: Who is your biggest inspiration? And who is your favourite singer and why?

Kee: My biggest inspiration and favourite singer all in one is Asha Bhosle. Do I need to explain further? But really Asha ji has the sweetest voice ever and still sounds sweet as ever.

DESIMAG: Have you performed outside the UK, If so where?

Kee: I haven’t as of yet, I’ve been mainly working on my album and performing around the UK, but I do hope to perform abroad in the near future.

DESIMAG: Has your life changed since you have become a singer? & what is life really like for a singer?

Kee: Yes, definitely! I have a 9-5 job, and life as an artist is a 24/7 job! So you can imagine I’m a very busy girl, but I prefer it that way otherwise I would get bored easily. You don’t really get time to see your friends and socialise the way you used to, but on the other hand I am meeting new people every-day. I find I can never switch off from being an artist. I have the passion and drive to succeed and failure is not an option for me. So far I have had very positive feedback and am looking forward to the journey ahead. As with everything you get your highs and lows but bottom line I love it!

DESIMAG: Which Artist’s would you like to work with in the future?

Kee: I would love to work with Atif Aslam, Jannat (group), Raghav and Taz (Stereo Nation).

DESIMAG: How do your lyrics reflect on your life, is there a deeper meaning/ message behind them?

Kee: The lyrics of every song are based on experience, however not necessarily just mine. I watch & experience other people’s lives around me and then reflect them in my music. I can actually put myself in their situation and imagine how I would feel in that moment of time. It’s really strange it’s almost like acting. I have also co-written with other people on some of my songs, so the lyrics are based on their experiences as well.

DESIMAG: What is your level of education? Do you consider education to be important in life and music?

Kee: I started working as soon as I left college. Luckily for me I progressed well and have a fantastic job now, but I could have got there a lot sooner had I continued my education. I think it is very important, and to be successful in anything you do you need a good head on your shoulders. After-all music is a business too.

DESIMAG: Where do you see your career as a singer in next 5 years?

Kee: Hopefully as a successful and well established artist who is still around.

DESIMAG: For a female vocalist you’re the first Hindi, Rock fusion in the UK how did this come about?

Kee: I am absolutely crazy about Hindi music and the way India and Pakistan have created this fusion with rock just blew me away, I just had bring it to the UK! Born and raised in the UK, I have always been surrounded by Bhangra and you’re odd Hindi singer. I wanted to bring something new to the UK Music Industry, and here I am!

DESIMAG: Are you single?

Kee: Yes! Unfortunately it is hard to commit to a relationship when you are married to music, but you never know I just haven’t met ‘the one’ yet.

DESIMAG: Do you take part in charity/ fund raising events?

Kee: Yes.

DESIMAG: Is your voice professionally trained & does singing come to you naturally?

Kee: I have been professionally trained and continue to exercise my voice regularly. Yes singing does come naturally; you can’t just decide one morning that you want to become a singer. Having the basics is great, but then you have to nurture what you have been given and try perfecting it. There is always room for improvement!

DESIMAG: What is your perspective of life?

Kee: Life is what YOU make of it! Stay humble and true to one another and good things will happen!

DESIMAG: Could you tell your fans & desimag.co.uk readers what your all time favourite song is?

Kee: My all time favourite song is ‘Kabhi Kabhi’. I must have driven my friends and family mad singing that all the time. I love the version Bally Sagoo did too!

DESIMAG: What is your biggest achievement to date?

Kee: My song ‘Tere Bina’ with Singer/Songwriter/Producer ARJUN was selected as one of the ‘top 5 love songs’ in 2008 with CLUBASIA!

DESIMAG: What do you fear the most?

Kee:  The thought of not being able to sing! I dread catching a cold/flu as it always hits my throat first!

DESIMAG: Name 5 things you consider to be your biggest strength?

Kee: My supporting family & friends, management, my voice, being able to create melodies and write songs!

DESIMAG: Name 5 of your weaknesses’ –

Kee: Music! Chocolate! Shoes! Nandos and Ben & Jerry’s Cookie Dough Ice-cream!

DESIMAG: What is your star sign?

Kee: Aries, yes so don’t mess! (LAUGHS)

The Sexiest show on earth.
The gilrs were surrounded by male dancers stripped to their waist.

Girls Aloud looked Gorgeous as they came on stage in Sheffied wearing Sparkling Black and Silver dresses and  Sexy gloves. The fisrt thing Cheryl, Sarah, Nadine and Nicola did was peel off all the way, to reveal sexy cutaway black and white themed leotards, the fans were all loving it. The girls worked their way through a number of their great hits including ”Fix Me Up?” and ”Something Kinda Ooh,” as well as a rendition of the Britney Spears song Womanizer.

Cheryl was wearing a white GaGa style outfit which made her stand out from her colleagues.

‘It’s full on from the first song, we decided to really go for it. God knows what we’ll look like by the end of the tour.’

Michael Jackson

The Daily Mail has reported that Michael, 50 is fighting Skin Cancer? They have published that his doctors saw spots of Cancer on his neck.

Not to worry though, its treatable.

Micheal is still set to perform his 50 sell-out UK comeback concerts at London’s O2 Arena from July.

Its believed that the disease is linked with vitiligo – a skin problem that affects pigmentation, which the star says he had been diagnosed with in the 1980’s.
