Hip hop star Shizzio became the first British Asian music star to deliver a speech at the world famous TED TALKS forum, which was held at Oxford university in the presence of students, professors and very high profile people from the world business and showbiz. The highly acclaimed scholars from Oxford and Cambridge university, celebrities and business moguls listened intently as the young rap star from London delivered a speech that mixed up his own personal experiences along with his ideas of what success really means. “Speaking on such an prestigious platform was an absolute honour. I’m just a street kid and for the committee to find me, learn about what I did and then ask me to speak at such a prestigious event was truly unbelievable. No rapper has ever addressed a TED TALKS Oxford stage before so for it to be, an Asian kid is beyond words.

” The normally confident and confrontational rap star admitted to feeling pressure in the lead up to the event, joking that he didn’t eat or sleep for three days. “I never felt so much pressure in my life! I knew I was representing street kids, the minority, urban culture and Asians as a whole. When I was there the whole day I wanted to be sick because the pressure was getting too much. I however held it together and when I hit that stage it all went away and everything just seemed right,” said Shizzio Shizzio had the audience captivated despite not having a prepared speech or slides and rounded off the talk with quick performance of his song Live For The Moment. “It was just a mic, me and the audience. Millionaires, the world’s smartest professors and the worlds Elite gave speeches and yet someone who started making music in his mums shed got the standing ovation. Afterwards a prestigious Oxford university professor who also gave a speech said to me that I had the best speech and I was the highlight of the event. In fact Richard Branson’s mum said if she was my mum she would be proud of me.” Big names who have delivered inspirational speeches on the same stage in the past include Bill Gates, Al Gore, Gordon Brown, Bill Gates, Bono and a host of Nobel Prize winners.

Guru Jazzmatazz dies at 43.

American rapper Guru, who has died aged 43 after battling cancer.

A statement said: “Guru has passed away yesterday morning (April 19) after a long battle with cancer.”

The artist, who was part of 1990s hip hop duo Gang Starr, suffered a cardiac arrest on March 2 and was in a coma for some time.

Jay Sean has topped the inaugural official Asian music download chart with his single Do You Remember.

 Currently in Las Vegas, celebrating his 27th Birthday – Jay sean is shocked to hear the news!

The R&B star’s song, also featuring Sean Paul and Lil Jon, beat Imran Khan’s Bewafa to the number one spot.

Female singer Jaya made it to number three with DJ Do It Again, while independent artist Foji’s fourth spot with Dafa Ho Ja came as a surprise.

The highest-charting Bollywood track was at five with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s Sajdaa from the film My Name is Khan.

The new chart is made up of music of British Asian or South Asian origin, including Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan.

The figures are collated by the Official Charts Company which puts together the mainstream UK top 40 download chart, in which Sean’s Do You Remember was number 33 last week.

“Music is changing very quickly in the US. Hip hop is turning into a kind of pop-dance-electro thing, and that should suit British artists.

“One thing they really appreciate in the US is if you’re just a nice person. If you’re easy to talk to and quite personable that should go a long way anywhere, but maybe its rarer than it should be.”

He continued: “I see the wave coming now. Taio Cruz is coming through, JLS are coming through, Cheryl Cole looks as if she might come through.”

Sitting two feet away from Ciara and the middle stage we were more than excited to see Beyonce. Fans noticed the star and immediately stared screaming and taking pictures…before her bodyguard came along and ruined the fun but she did stand up and say hi and later got a mention from Beyonce announcing to the rest of the crowd that Ciara was in the audience.

The show was opened by UK artist Iris and then a surprise performance from Shontelle!! The Bastian beauty sand her hit T-shirt, her collaboration with Akon stuck (she joked before singing this that we were waiting for Beyonce but was Stuck with her for now..very clever!) Shontelle also treated us to a rendition of the hit dancehall song Roll It, telling us ” I’m gonna show ya’ll how we party in Barbados where i come from.”

An excited crowd cheered for her as she left the stage and waited for queen B. It felt like ages but about half an hour later, Beyonce hit the stage looking amazing and the crowd went wild. She performed hit after hit for just over two hours with no interval (the girl just kept going!)
 
We were treated to a screening of Bey as a child singing, people all over the world including Justin Timberlake and Barack Obama doing the single ladies dance! A robotic futuristic (animated) video was screened to us during “Sweet Dreams” and we can confirm that Bey looked even hotter as a cartoon!

West London’s very own comedic personality (she is very funny) Dynamic Jen talks to Urban Grind about her new radio show, singing, modelling and comedy.

UrbanGrind:  Dynamic! How are you doing? (we feel a bit intimidated actually this woman means business!)
Dynamic: Lol you cheeky cow. I’m fine hun.
 
UrbanGrind: Last time we saw you you invited us along with MTV comedian Jason Lewis on your radio show (we’ve never laughed more). Tell us more about the show and what’s been happening on it lately.

Dynamic: That was a great show and i’m happy to have been the first person to bring Jason on radio and play his Black Boys comedy remix.I was on Drivetime then three days a week and have since moved over to a show called Xposure(every thursday 7-9pm) where we play the best in new music and new artists. I co present this show with my good friend Sammy Jay. I was lucky to get thi s oppertunity as even though I totaly loved doing Drivetime my love for the UK music scene was growing everyday and although I had already interviewed some of the UK’s biggest artists such as Ghetto, Kano, Chipmunk, Double ss, Jay sean, I still wanted to help promote unkown artists too. So when I was offered to present on Xposure by DJ Rude I was overwhelmed with joy.

 
UrbanGrind:  You model, present and sing, how do you find the time to do it all?
Dynamic: People always say this and I suppose this is where the name Dynamic comes into play as I have to be to be able to cope lol. I’ve learnt over the last couple months how to prioritise and try to take each day as it comes. I’ve got music coming out towards the end of the year and am currently working and song writing with South londons finest producers ‘Worldstar’. UrbanDesi: Who have produced a song for Leona Lewis may we add.
 
UrbanGrind: Which one do you enjoy doing the most?

Dynamic: To be honest all of them because I vowed to get rich by using this big mouth of mine so I figured if I use it correctly and be myself-one of them has to work out!!
 
UrbanGrind: We know your name is Jennifer but how did the “Dynamic” part come about?
Dynamic: It came about by accident but to cut a long story short a couple people used the term to describe my hustle a couple times and i was like yeah I am bloody dynamic aint I lol. The hardest part is living up to the name but its good as it pushes me to succeed.
 
UrbanGrind: One thing we love about you and your show is that you always promote UK talent (just like us). How important is it for you to send out the message that we must support our own and give the Americans a run for their money? (We can do it guys common!)

Dynamic: I’ts such a shame that for such a small country we have so much nonsense here in regards to way we support each other. Right now record companies are coming to artists through the artists own hard work using means such as myspace etc. Five years ago this was non existant so now is the time for everyone to join forces and make that pound sterling.

Gone are the days where we made music here to run off to america. 
 
UrbanGrind: We listened to a copy of your mix tape (it was quite good mix) “Strictly UK part 1″ (it’s strictly Funky,  Grime and old school UK Garage), what made you decide to do that and how did you put it all together?

Dynamic: Wow that was some hard work. I did that with a clothing company called Strictly UK based in Croydon. We both thought it was a great way to push UK artists and give to charity through the calender i did with it. I can’t wait for the second cd which I will be putting together around August. I have so many amazing artists ready to feature and celebrities ready to help out too so stay locked. I want to make sure this is executed perfectly. The first one was like a test but I lived through it ready for part two.
 
UrbanGrind: You’re so focused and beautiful, we have to know Jen… Are you single?

Dynamic: Awwww your soo lovely..in the mornings I beg to differ but yes I am single but not for long so you can find me at match.com looooooooooool just playing!!!

I am so excited at the news that Whitney Houston has finally confirmed that her untitled album will hit the stores in September. We haven’t heard anything from the superstar since 2002.

 After battling drug addiction and getting rid of ex husband Bobby Brown, Whitney seems to be back to the amazing woman we all fell in love with. She is looking much better than she has done in recent years and I hope that her comeback is huge just like her voice!

Excuse us whilst we rofl (roll on the floor laughing), there’s a new funny man in town ready to paint the town red. Comedian, actor and presenter Jamie howard talks to Urban Grind!

Desimag: Jamie…we should stop meeting like this! How have you been?

Jamie: I am very well thank you, i am pretty, rich, employed, healthy……..Well 1 out of 4 aint bad.

Desimag: You’re such a multi talent! A presenter, a comedian, a writer and an actor… We hear that you can sing as well?

J: I can hold a tune, i had singing lessons when i was a lot younger, i have a big passion for music but i am well aware i cant sing well enough to sell records, but i heard you don’t need to be able to sing well to sell records *coughs akon coughs*

Desimag: How did you get into all of that?

J: Both my parents are actors, so performing has always been in my blood, also I would hate to have a 9-5 and was never very good at school, (I did pass all my exams though) so the best bet for me was to try and get paid by not working very hard.

Desimag: Which one do you enjoy doing the most?

J: I have always wanted to be an actor, that was my first passion, i used to go to the theatre every week with my Mum, my first jobs were working in theatre, but as time has moved on and i have started doing comedy, that has taken over, i love the interaction with the crowd, and seeing the look on peoples faces, good or bad, and i have an on stage persona, so i incorporate acting with my comedy. I would just love to be able to do everything, and do everything well. 

 Desimag: Tell us more about the sunday show.

J: The Sunday Show is like Britain’s got talent, just on a smaller scale and with more black people. I host it alongside another comic called Lillteman We have comics, singers, rappers, poets, magicians that come down every week to entertain the crowd. I play the Simon Cowell role.

Desimag: The audience can be harsh with the crowd sometimes. What do you do when that happens ?

J: Let the poor b****** suffer a little longer

Desimag: You made an appearance on an MTV show (The Jason Lewis Experience). How did that come about?

J: I have known Jason Lewis for a while, and we have had shows together up and down the country, when he got his show on MTV ,he phoned me to ask if i would be a part of it, and i jumped at the chance.

Desimag: What was it like on set with the rest of the cast (we were there so we’ll know if he’s lying) ?

J: Put several comedians in a room together and other people that think they are funny and you would think it would be nothing but laughs, well you are wrong, it was hell! People trying to be funnier than each other, trying to get more camera time, trying to re-name the sketch show…..I still think the Jamie Howard experience sounds better.

Desimag: Awkward star is an online magazine with a twist, how does it work?

J: www.awkwardstar.com is a user generated magazine, there is a voting system where you the reader can choose which articles stay and which articles go.

Desimag: What other projects are you working on at the moment?

J: I just shot a promo for BBC3 called “Dog Endz” and I also just finished shooting a British Film called “The Kid” which will be in Cinemas nationwide the start of next year. I have a few other bits and bobs going on, i am just waiting on Jason Lewis to do all the hard work again really.

Desimag: You performed at Kojo’s Comedy Fun House recently…Will you be doing any more?

J: Kojo’s show is on a Sunday and my show is also on a Sunday, so because of that i don’t think i will be able to, but catch Kojos comedy funhouse on MtvBase.

Desimag: What has been the most offended someone has reacted to one of your jokes?

J: I have had guys trying to jump up on the stage to beat me up. I think if i don’t offend at least 5 people, then i haven’t done my job properly

Desimag: What do you think of today’s “I wanna be Diddy” and “Party ard” culture?

J: I don’t understand why anybody would wanna be Diddy, and as for the “Party ‘Ard” lifestyle, if you have the funds to do it, then why not, just don’t moan several years down the line when you are 45 working in Lidl cause you went to a funky house rave instead of doing your dissertation and got thrown out of uni cause you wanted to touch your head, shoulders, knees and toes.

Desimag: You’re quite a flirt Jamie (we’ve seen you!) Are you single?

J: For the right girl i am, but can i just say, the baby isn’t mine.

Desimag: What do you think about romance these days?

On the anniversaries of the original album September 11th and the 9/11 attacks, Jay-Z’s is set to release his latest album The Blueprint 3.

There has been so much buzz surrounding this project with fans going nuts for song D.O.A. (Death of Autotune) which will be released from the forthcoming album and guest appearances are expected from Andre 3000, Young Jheezy, Nas and a rumoured cameo from Eminem  have already set this album up to be a huge hit.
 
Jay-Z apparently spent £3m to end his contract with Def Jam/Universal  for his new label Roc Nation which is part of a multimillion deal with promoter Live Nation and that is the label The Blueprint 3 is going to be released from.
 
This being his first album since American Gangster, released in 2007, we are expecting a major hip hop album to drop but after getting married to long time girlfriend Beyonce and a failed attempt to retire, we have a feeling that the rapper’s album will draw from a new inspiration and who knows, he may even have a song in there about his beautiful wife!

One thing is for sure we cannot wait for this album to drop and neither can you!
