Hip hop star Shizzio became the first British Asian music star to deliver a speech at the world famous TED TALKS forum, which was held at Oxford university in the presence of students, professors and very high profile people from the world business and showbiz. The highly acclaimed scholars from Oxford and Cambridge university, celebrities and business moguls listened intently as the young rap star from London delivered a speech that mixed up his own personal experiences along with his ideas of what success really means. “Speaking on such an prestigious platform was an absolute honour. I’m just a street kid and for the committee to find me, learn about what I did and then ask me to speak at such a prestigious event was truly unbelievable. No rapper has ever addressed a TED TALKS Oxford stage before so for it to be, an Asian kid is beyond words.

” The normally confident and confrontational rap star admitted to feeling pressure in the lead up to the event, joking that he didn’t eat or sleep for three days. “I never felt so much pressure in my life! I knew I was representing street kids, the minority, urban culture and Asians as a whole. When I was there the whole day I wanted to be sick because the pressure was getting too much. I however held it together and when I hit that stage it all went away and everything just seemed right,” said Shizzio Shizzio had the audience captivated despite not having a prepared speech or slides and rounded off the talk with quick performance of his song Live For The Moment. “It was just a mic, me and the audience. Millionaires, the world’s smartest professors and the worlds Elite gave speeches and yet someone who started making music in his mums shed got the standing ovation. Afterwards a prestigious Oxford university professor who also gave a speech said to me that I had the best speech and I was the highlight of the event. In fact Richard Branson’s mum said if she was my mum she would be proud of me.” Big names who have delivered inspirational speeches on the same stage in the past include Bill Gates, Al Gore, Gordon Brown, Bill Gates, Bono and a host of Nobel Prize winners.

What’s new Pussycat? We all knew her as the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls, but Nicole Scherzinger is now stepping out on her own. Having landed her first solo number one in the UK with Don’t Hold Your Breath, the 32-year-old beauty has finally released her highly anticipated album, Killer Love. Having achieved a Grammy nomination and several global number ones with the Pussycat Dolls, the Hawaiian born singer is now doing it alone, describing the album as ‘fun and dangerous, soulful and with attitude’. Most of Killer Love was produced by RedOne, a producer who has worked alongside the likes of Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez. Scherzinger’s edgy first track Poison, shot to number three in the UK charts. With its dance-pop and rock influences, it soon became an anthem in clubs across the country, giving Nicole her first taste of solo success. The second single, Don’t Hold Your Breath, landed Nicole her first number one. Having sold 98,000 copies in its first week alone, the song preaches a message of strength and dignity regarding a bad relationship. The title track, Killer Love, sees Scherzinger merge classic rock and funk, with a throbbing bass and electronic beats and showcases the singer’s feisty voice. Right There is a classic R’n’B track and it sounds like it belongs on Rihanna’s album. Consider it a great sing-a-long, but the heavy use of auto tune almost drowns Scherzinger’s usual powerful vocals. With a hint of Caribbean vibes, the single should prove popular in the urban charts and will feature rapper 50 Cent. Wet is a thumping club friendly number, and is an essential track in your party playlist. Again, the background beat sounds a lot like Only Girl In The World by Rihanna but is a fun track nonetheless. Then we come across Club Banger Nation, a fast and furious track. Even though it starts promising, the chorus doesn’t live up to expectations. You Will Be Loved, a mellow ballad, featuring some bizarre yodelling by Scherzinger. The chorus is a repetition of the song’s title, portraying a message of hope regarding falling in love. The singing superstar, Sting, features on Power’s Out, but the track is bit of a snooze. As for the album cover, a soft and pretty image of the singer doesn’t exactly portray the fast and dangerous sound of Scherzinger”s debut solo number. Something a little bit more dark and feisty would have done the trick. All in all, a worthy effort from Scherzinger, and likely to earn the ex-Pussycat Doll the success and recognition she deserves.

The senior government lawyer Sir Michael wood has told the Chilcot inquiry that the invasion of Iraq had no “Legal basis in International Law”.

Wood who was the most senior legal advisor at the foreign Office at the time of the invasion told the inquiry he disagreed with the advice of Lord Goldsmith, the former attorney general, that military intervention was lawful. He said in a written statement- “I considered that the use of force against Iraq in March 2003 was contrary to international law,”

In my opinion that use of force had not been authorised by the United Nations Security Council. And had no other basis in international law.

The foreign secretary at the time Jack Straw also rejected advice that the war would be unlawful the inquiry heard today.

Sir Michael wrote to Mr Straw on January 24, 2003 to express concerns about comments he made to then-US vice president Dick Cheney in Washington.

Mr Straw told Mr Cheney that Britain would “prefer” a second resolution but it would be “OK” if they tried and failed to get one “a la Kosovo”.

Sir Michael commented that this was “completely wrong from a legal point of view”.

He wrote in his letter to Mr Straw: “I hope there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that, without a further decision of the Council, and absent extraordinary circumstances of which at present there is no sign, the UK cannot lawfully use force against Iraq to ensure compliance with its Security Council WMD resolution.”

Sir Michael said Mr Straw held a meeting with him after this but did not accept his advice.

He told the inquiry: “He took the view that I was being very dogmatic and that international law was pretty vague and that he wasn’t used to people taking such a firm position.

“When he had been at the Home Office, he had often been advised things were unlawful but he had gone ahead anyway and won in the courts.”

Sir Michael said this was “probably the first and only occasion” that a minister rejected his legal advice in this way.

Sir Michael said he did not agree with Lord Goldsmith’s statement on the eve of the invasion that Security Resolution 1441 – passed in November 2002 requiring Iraq to give up its supposed weapons of mass destruction (WMD) – together with earlier resolutions dating back to the 1991 Gulf War, provided sufficient authorisation.

He also rejected Lord Goldsmith’s earlier view that 1441 was capable of reviving the earlier 1991 authorisations without the need for a further resolution of the Security Council.

However, declassified documents released by the inquiry show that, in December 2002, he wrote to Lord Goldsmith’s office suggesting it was possible to argue that 1441 did provide the authorisation for military action.

In his letter, Sir Michael said his “first view” was that 1441 did not in itself authorise the use of force or revive the authorisations in the earlier resolutions.

However, he then went on to offer a “second view” – that 1441 did contain “a conditional authorisation” to use force if Iraq failed to comply with its provisions and there was then a further discussion in the Security Council.

“On this view, the council has already, by (Security Council Resolution) SCR 1441, decided that Iraq is still in material breach of its obligations, having been given a final opportunity to do so, and pending a further discussion of the issue in the Council,” he wrote.

However, he cautioned that there would be “possible difficulties” with this approach.

Haiti’s devastating earthquake has risen above 150,000 in the Port-au-Prince area alone, a government minister has said.
Many more remain uncounted under rubble in the capital and elsewhere, including the towns of Jacmel and Leogane.
The search for survivors has officially ended and the focus has shifted to aid.
An estimated 1.5 million people have been left homeless.

But Mr Brown said it was essential to “go further” than the current technology allowed.

A lot of people will have an issue with the scanners however they are put in for our own security.

Akmal Shaikh, of London, was reportedly told by his family that he faced death at 10:30. It is not known if the sentence has been carried out.

The UK government has made a final appeal to China to halt the execution of a 53-year-old British man who is thought to be mentally ill. It has been told that he might be convicted of drug smuggling, but has denied any wrongdoing.

A protest has been held outside the Chinese Embassy in London, calling for clemency for Mr Shaikh.

Mr Lewis held last-ditch talks with the Chinese ambassador in London on Monday evening.

The minister said after the talks: “We hope that the relationship we have with China will count for something in the end.

“It’s entirely inappropriate that he be put to death. We’ve made 27 representations over the last two years… and even at this late stage I hope they will see that in a modern world it is not appropriate to put a man with mental illness to death.

Akmal’s daughter Leilla says that he was approached by the chinese and pushed to become a singer, it was them who told him to take the bags over.

Tony Blair is facing strong criticism after he said he would have gone to war in Iraq even if he had known there were not any weapons of mass destruction.

The former prime minister said it was the “notion” of Saddam as a threat to the region which tilted him in favour of the invasion of Iraq in 2003? Is this for real?

He added that he would have used different arguments to justify the war. So why did’nt he?

Tony Blair was asked whether he would still have gone on with plans to join the US-led invasion had he known at the time that there were no WMD. This was asked on a BBC show earlier this week.

He said: “I would still have thought it right to remove him. I mean obviously you would have had to use and deploy different arguments, about the nature of the threat.”

He added: “I can’t really think we’d be better with him and his two sons still in charge, but it’s incredibly difficult.

“That’s why I sympathise with the people who were against [the war] for perfectly good reasons and are against it now, but for me, you know, in the end I had to take the decision.”

He added that there had been “12 years of United Nations to and fro on this subject” of Iraq’s weapons and that Saddam had “used chemical weapons on his own people”.

The town’s illuminations had lit the way as the royal party made its way to the Opera House in the Winter Gardens.

The charity event’s host, comedian Peter Kay, welcomed the Queen to “the entertainment capital of the world”.

The show’s performers included Lady Gaga, Bette Midler, Whoopi Goldberg and Britain’s Got Talent winners Diversity.

Kay told the audience that his grandmother was sitting near the Queen, and suggested the pair would be “swapping fudge by the interval”.

“She might be in her 80s but she still pulls her wheelie bin out every Tuesday night. I just wish my Nanna would,” he joked.

The trio of Lulu, Anastacia and Chaka Khan opened the show with a performance of Take That’s Relight My Fire.

Hollywood actress Goldberg introduced the cast from stage show Sister Act, who were followed by performers including 2008 X Factor winner Alexandra Burke and fellow singer Michael Buble.

Diversity, who had won the right to perform as champions of this year’s Britain’s Got Talent ITV show, wore red military jackets and performed their dance routine in front of a projected image.

Applauded by fans and former boxer Naseem Hammed, Amir started wiith powerfull punches which knocked back Salita straight from the Start bells.

Amir Khan the champion and winner has done it again! Not taking no for an answer and has come back focused and ready yet again!

Before the boxers even had time to work up a sweat, Khan dropped the previously unbeaten Salita heavily in centre ring with a left and a right.

He rocked his unprotected head back time and again, had him down again for eight in a neutral corner, then finished him with a left hook after only 76 seconds to keep his WBA light-welterweight title at the first time of asking. Prescott, who lost to Kevin Mitchell on the undercard, had taken 54 seconds to beat Khan.

Talk about a reversal of fortunes.

Well done Amir! You’ve done us all proud ….AGAIN!

Amir Khan says he is primed and ready ahead of his first WBA light-welterweight defence against Dmitriy Salita in Newcastle on Saturday.

Both fighters made the 10-stone limit at Friday’s weigh-in with Khan half a pound under, while Salita needed to strip naked before coming through it.

“I know it is going to be tough but I feel good and feel sharp,” said Khan.

“It’s a big chance for him but I saw fear in his eyes and he struggled to make the weight. He looks drained.”

Salita, naturally the bigger fighter, has fought most of his career at light-welterweight, while Khan is boxing at the 10-stone limit for only the third time in his career.

Amir Khan

Will he give us a winter warmer!

Khan, 22, will be making the first defence of his WBA title that he won with a unanimous points victory over Andreas Kotelnik in Manchester in July.

The Bolton fighter has lost once in 22 fights, while his opponent is unbeaten in his 31 contests.

Khan’s one defeat was inflicted by Colombian Breidis Prescott in September 2008, with the Olympic silver medallist knocked out in 54 seconds and Salita is ready to take advantage of any vulnerability at the Metro Radio Arena.

“I think Amir Khan is a very good boxer and he’s had a lot of success in a short space of time,” said New York based Salita.

“Even if he’s ready he’s going to have a lot of trouble.

RBS reportedly wants to pay a total of £1.5bn in bonuses to investment banking staff, and the board has threatened to quit if the government blocks the move.

The Treasury said it would intervene if it was in the interest of taxpayers.

Meanwhile, Barclays is planning on increasing the non-variable element of staff pay at Barclays Capital, its investment bank, the BBC’s business editor Robert Peston says.

Barclays maintains that by pushing up salaries, it is only doing what G20 governments have asked it to do, by shifting the weight of pay from the variable portion – ie bonuses – to fixed.
