Commonwealth Games 2010.

AR Rahman was approached to compose the title theme track for India’s Commonwealth Games 2010 this year. Both fans and politician VijayKumar Malhotra board member of the Organising Committee claimed “we expected a better song from Rahman.” The former sports minister Shahnawaz Hussain was hugely disappointed and felt let down after he heard AR’s theme song titled “Swagatham” released on Monday 28^th August which was composed for India’s upcoming Commonwealth Games 2010. He said “the track simply does not excite me”. Seems like Rahman who has taken six months to compose this tune which potentially takes 10 minutes to compose &  has more work to do then he thought.

 

The theme track doesn’t seem to be pleasing crowds here in the UK or in India either.  The potential message behind the lyrics suggest “O’ Yaaro, India bula liya” (friends we have called you to India) is supposedly not appealing enough to melt hearts, seems like the Oscar winner is losing his touch. The track is said to be too slow, lacks the Indian touch, isn’t catchy enough and has no feel to it. Social networking sites such as facebook has attracted fans who have expressed mixed feelings both good and bad. Chairman Suresh Kalmadi was asked to comment on the theme song and said” I like the song”.

Well apart from Suresh there doesn’t seem to be many takers who share the same view.

Mr Hussain has demanded that Rahman who has been paid Rs.5 crore to Re-work the song again after hearing the South African FIFA World Cup 2010 theme song ‘WAKA WAKA’ sung by exceptional US singer Shakira. ‘Waka Waka’ has it all, the right punch rhythm and lyrics; well folks what else would you expect from the outstanding vocalist shakira shakira.

Rahman has agreed to recompose the track which will be ready in 10 days tweaking it were possible. Well who wouldn’t, for the substantial amount he’s has been paid for it??

Shahnawaz was hoping Rahman’s track would be a huge hit. Let’s hope this time round Rahman strikes a high note!!

Salman Khan - Yeh Hain Jalwa

Yeh hai Jalwa! Salman ka Jalwa! Soon to drop Dabanng on us, which is getting very positive responses with its already hit soundtrack, Salman gave a demo of his power while promoting the movie in Rajasthan this week by giving a pupils from a Jaipur college, the day off??

Amongst all the screaming and fainting over the young hot stud, Salman asked the students what they wanted and they asked for a day off college? So Salman being Salman puts the request in to the  college principal who turns around as said yes!!

Now the star might have been joking around with the request, but it went down a treat when it was taken seriously. The college principal declared a holiday and Salman becomes a super hit for Jaipurs Engineering students. Seems like his ”tash” has not only intimidated the world but the Collegue Principal as well.

We wonder what Super-Man will do next!

Dubai Fashion Week.

An E2010 Spring/Summer show scheduled for October 24-29, 2009 reveals a change of venue

  Dubai, UAE, 16 August, 2009: Organisers of Dubai Fashion Week (DFW), Concept Events, today announced the Spring/Summer 2010 (SS10) season will be showcased at the InterContinental Dubai Festival City between October 24th – 29th this year.

The change of venue, in response to the success of the Fall/Winter show, will accommodate larger crowds including buyers, media and guests who are expected to attend and experience more than 35 designer collections at this edition. Designers participating are from around GCC & South Asia.

Last season’s popular designers including Walid Atallah, Reem Ali Beljafla, HSY, Aly Fawaz, Amal Murad, Salma Khan and Mariam Al Mazro are returning, much to the anticipation of buyers, media and fashionistas and many new collections will also be showcased. Several designers showcasing for the first time at DFW include Furne One, Siddarth Tytler, Michael Cinco & Beenas. Collections will range from couture to prêt à porter.
Concept Events is also calling for entries from up-and-coming designers for this season’s Emerging Talent Competition giving winners of the rigorous judging process the opportunity to showcase their collections alongside some of the region’s best.

Karachi Fashion Week 2009

The promotional ceremony of Karachi Fashion Week 2009 was launched at a local hotel on Tuesday. Karachi Fashion Week 2009, the four day fashion event that is going to be held from October 15 to 18 at Golf Club, will be hosted by Fashion Pakistan in collaboration with an event management company Triple E.

 

The launch was a part of promotional measures to provide people with regular updates and information on the event and its participants.

The ceremony was headed by Fashion Pakistan C.E.O, Ayesha Tammy, Arshad Siddiqui (Triple-E collaborator) and Sultana Siddiqui (Chairperson of Hum TV).

Ayesha Tammy said on the occasion that their efforts meant “to encourage, promote and facilitate the development and growth of the fashion industry in Pakistan, make it competitive in the international market, and also to build on relationships with buyers and foreign designers to promote investment”. She explained that during Fashion Week (October 15 to 18), they would not only observe works of famous designers like Maheen Karim, Maheen Khan, Rizwan Beyg, Deepak Parwani, Adnan Qardesi and Shamael Ansari, but would also encourage emerging designers”.

She added that they would showcase the best of Pakistani fashion and established designers would share the runaway with new and emerging talent in the categories of couture, prêt, men’s wear and women’s wear.

Ayesha Tammy said that Memorandums of Understanding had been signed with several international fashion institutions and she hoped to present the collection of one international designer each day of the Fashion Week.

She added that though Fashion Week was purely a fashion show, they hoped that in the future they would provide vocational training for emerging designers and hold workshops for fashion journalists.

The ceremony was attended by many famous fashion related personalities. Acclaimed designer Maheen Khan and Fashion journalists Zurain Imam, were present also present on the occasion

Pakistani Fashion

Farhan Khan, a drummer in a band, is taking a break from performing. This move was prompted by his mother, who worries that her son might become a target for the Islamic extremists gradually asserting their power in this city.

 

In recent months, as theaters have been bombed, art festivals interrupted, and musicians targeted, Mr. Khan has learned firsthand about the rising level of hostility toward his profession.

“Once, I was walking down a street: I wear my hair long and was wearing tattered jeans,” he says. “As I neared a corner, I came across a bearded man who gave me a dirty look and then scowled at me.”

Tantra is the licensee for Miss Universe India Pageant 2010. The winner will be the official representative of India at the Miss Universe 2010 beauty pageant at Las Vegas, Nevada in August.

Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori, were in the capital for the promotion of their latest release Kites, when they were mobbed at Noida Mall.

The duo arrived at The Great India Place Mall in Noida to promote Kites, which hit theatres on Friday.

 Hrithik was to arrive post the press conference however Hrithik and Barbara were mobbed by the unruly crowd. “The crowd  pushed the actors trying to get pictures and autographs. Barbara even bruised her knees,” he said.

“The security was unable to deal with screaming fans,” he added.

More than thousand people had gathered in the mall to get a glimpse of the actors.

Hrithik recently halted traffic in New York when he sprinted across 42nd Street to meet his eager fans who were thrilled and over excited to see him run for them!

At least 19 peace activists killed as Israeli commandos attack the Freedom Flotilla en route to Gaza to break the siege, this and more, coming up, stay tuned.

 

At least 19 people were killed and around 50 were wounded when an Israeli commando force forcefully boarded the boats and randomly opened fire at the peace activists who were en route to the Gaza Strip. The activists were hoping to deliver much needed supplies to the besieged Gaza residents, including construction material, medical supplies, in addition to 100 pre-manufactured houses, in addition to 500 electric wheel chairs. The Israeli military claimed their forces were attacked first, an allegation strongly denied by the activists onboard. The attack started after the army forcefully boarded the Turkish-flagged boat and opened fire at the passengers before hundreds of commandos attacked all ships at once and assumed control over them, and trailed them to Ashdod port, however their fate remains unknown.

Among the wounded were Sheikh Raed Salah head of the northern branch of the Islamic Movement in Israel, who suffered serious wounds, and head of the Lebanese delegation, Hani Suleiman, in addition to the Captain of the “Marmara” Turkish Ship, and a Turkish Legislator. Media sources reported that the Greek captain of the boat “8000”, was wounded and refused to receive medical aid in Israel and demanded to be transported to his country. In the after math of the attack, Israel beefed up its police in the Arab town of Um El-Fahem, the hometown of Sheikh Raed Salah. The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu’s office canceled his visit to the United States, where he was supposed to meet with the U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington. In the meantime, the Turkish Prime Minister Rajab Tayyeb Erdogan, whose country has the highest losses among the victims, interrupted his visit to Latin America and headed back to his country. Erdogan is expected to come up with harsh statements against Israel once he is back, as his initial comment described the attack as state terrorism, and Turkey called the Israeli ambassador, and delivered a letter of condemnation to Israel, and canceled three military joint drills with Israel, and recalled their envoy in Tel Aviv.

Thousands of people in Turkey protested in front of the Israeli consulate in Istanbul and the Embassy in Ankara demanding there government to severe the diplomatic relations with Israel. On the other hand, the American and French reactions were very mild. While Washington expressed sorrow for the victims, the French President Nicolas Sarkozy, said he is sorry for this “disproportionate use of force.”

In Palestine, people took to the streets in several areas in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip to protest the Israeli attack on the peace activists and the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas declared a three-day mourning in the country. A number of European countries, including Greece, Spain, Sweden called the Israeli ambassador to express their condemnation to the Israeli raid. In other news, a Palestinian woman died of wounds suffered when a settler hit her with his car Sunday, Palestinian medical sources in Hebron reported.

Shahrukh Khan, Akon and Kareena Kapoor.

Khan’s character in the upcoming super hero film Ra.One is called G.One for Good One.

 

“G.One stands for the good one & sustainer of life. To protect life he is ready to put his own [on] the line. Hope u all like him….will show soon,” Khan tweeted on May 31.

The 44-year-old actor, who has had to loose a lot of weight for his super-hero role, joked that he feels G.One could well stand for Gaunt One.

“After losing so much weight i feel g stands for the gaunt one,” he tweeted.

The name of the film – Ra.One – is short for Random Access Version 1. The film targets kids and is about a superhero who can freeze electricity.

Khan plays a Miami based software engineer named Shekhar, who as a video-game hero takes on his self-created techno-monster Ra One.

The film, set in London, additionally stars Kareena Kapoor and Sahana Goswami.

Kareena plays lead in the film, opposite Khan, as a young mother of an eight-year old. When he falls in love with Kareena, Khan imagines her as one of the characters.

“Ra.One is a very ambitious project. It’s a film that kids will enjoy for sure. It’s not only for kids but the idea is also to bring action to a different level. It’s hugely experimental,” says Arjun Rampal who plays villain in the film.

American singer Akon recorded a song for the film in Mumbai. 

The K’s (Khan & Kapoor’s) are in the Uk in the first week of July wrapping up some shots for the film.

Raghav Performs on stage in Chicago-IL

University and campus bubbles have such great potential to give back to our communities because they are so strong in numbers, ideas and creativity however it is not often student led organizations choose to use this to the benefit of charity.

Imran Bashir, who is the standing President of the Pakistani Student Association wanted to bring Pakistani culture back to IIT’s campus. He felt the tradition himself and many other students were aching for in the states had been disappearing on campus over the years and he wanted to make it his initiative to bring it back- full throttle.

When Imran first approached Thaakat he had wished to make the initiative a success for both of us. Faithfully he appealed to his student board to set aside a percentage of proceeds to go to Thaakat Foundation and Thaakat did the best they could to get the crowds together to promote what Imran had worked with IIT to put together to represent the cultural fervor of South Asians in America.

On Sunday April 25th, the doors opened at 7 pm to a night of “Rock it with Raghav” presented by IIT. Girls screamed as the pop star sailed across the stage, the joyful crowd sang along and all attendees rooted for the show continue on into the wee hours of the Sunday night.

Raghav was born to Indian parents in Canada and at a very young age shared his passion for music. Initially starting as a songwriter and going on to take singing lessons, Raghav became an instrumental part of Indian American pop culture and went on to win numerous awards on local and global levels. With his songs peaking the charts in South Asia as well as in England and the states, his superb characteristic has been his ability to remain humble.

When Thaakat Foundation requested a quick video blog for support from Raghav, he did not hesitate to reach out to the cause and share with people the importance of giving back to your culture and it’s people.

Stars from 'Its A Wonderful Afterlife'

Before Gurinder Chadha started filming It’s A Wonderful Afterlife in London last year, she gave her script to Karan Johar to read. The writer-director wanted his opinion. Luckily for her, Karan absolutely loved the script. Reveals an elated Gurinder, “He told me that I must make the film.” In fact, Gurinder pays a tribute of sorts to her good friend, as a line from the title track of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai has been used at a comic juncture in the film

.

 As luck would have it, Karan was also one of the first industry persons to watch the film, which opened on 23rd April in the UK. He watched it at a cinema in London, where he had stopped over for a day on his way to Los Angeles.

Incidentally, Gurinder was flown down to Mumbai by the film’s co-producers and Indian distributors, Studio 18 on the 23rd. “We probably crossed each other’s paths in the sky,” laughed Gurinder whose English language film (the original) and also its dubbed Hindi version, Hai Marjawaan!, are both due for an Indian release on May 7.”I’ve seen the the original English version so many times that I’ve lost count. It’s the most Indian film I’ve ever made. I’m sure that people are going to love it. I’m actually looking forward to watching the dubbed version, Hai Marjawaan!, on Friday,” she adds.The audience should be careful about checking which version (English or Hindi) they’re going to watch before buying cinema tickets. Both the versions release theatrically in India this week.

Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan has revealed that he urgently needs surgery because he has two hernias which are causing pain.

The actor, who has been avoiding surgery for a while claimed that the hernias cause him severe pain when he moves.

“There are now two urgent hernia in the lower abdomen which have swelled up dangerously and cause me problems,” Bachchan posted on his blog Bigb.bigadda.com.

“Sharp pains when I stand for too long or walk too much. During dance and action scenes there is huge pain and I counter that with a hernia belt which is temporary and not really a cure.

“So the doctors have been after me for a surgery, well two actually on either side of the abdomen and I have been avoiding it because of my busy schedule. But I shall have to take care of it now.

“Because of the several times that the stomach has been opened up, there are lesions, and they at times stick and cause problems.”

Prakash Jha has cast Katrina Kaif alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgn in his latest movie!

Kaif recently worked with Jha on the film Raajneeti, was reportedly so impressed with the actress that he asked her to appear in his new movie Aarakshan.

The film is set to look into issues surrounding job reservation in India and is set against an academic backdrop in india.

Bachchan plays a teacher, who has apparently been inspired by his late father Harivansh Rai Bachchan. 

Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab

166 people died by the gunman. Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, 22, was jointly responsible for the assault on the railway station where 52 people were gunned down.

 

 He was convicted on 86 charges of waging war against India, possessing explosives and aiding and abetting the murders of all 166 victims.

India blames a Pakistan-based militant group, Lashkar-e-Taiba, for masterminding the attack. In his verdict, the judge said Kasab was a member of the group.

The evidence against Kasab included footage from closed circuit cameras in and around the train station and the testimony of more than 600 witnesses.

Two men, Fahim Ansari and Sabauddin Ahmed, charged alongside Kasab with carrying out reconnaissance missions for the attacks were acquitted because of insufficient evidence.

Bothers Mohammad ali and Hayder.

A man has been charged with the murder of two brothers who were stabbed in Tooting, south London, four years ago.

Mohammad Ali, 24, an IT sales manager from Battersea, and Hayder Ali, 23, a recruitment consultant of Southfields, were attacked by a group of men.

The brothers were killed after a confrontation on Upper Tooting Road on 22 April 2006.

Imran Aslam, 27, from Balham, is due to appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court in the morning.

The new song from Badmaash Company “Ayaashi” has Shahid Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Meiyang Chang and Vir Das in an extremely glamorous look.

 

When the director of the film, Parmeet Sethi saw the clothes that had been selected for the song, he immediately rejected them. He wanted the look to be just perfect, so he actually went out to genuine designer stores and shopped for the cast in New York. The boys turned out looking dapper and Anushka couldn’t be more chic!

K: Well next, Khiza presents a new up and coming music producer Jay and a new 20 years old singer from birmingham, who goes under the name of Aly Hash that’s the next project i have been working on with the two talented artists.

The album n video are out on the 19th march called, ”Jeena Mera …” after that i am off to india for my album promotion tour.

On my return, i’m looking to produce my next video, releasing from my album ”Turning point” …this time again, new flavours, a more drum n base track called ”Dil Marjaane Nu” featuring heartless crew’s ”Mighty Moe” and my new artist from Delhi, India… ”Nidhi Kohli” …then after that i have the final video phew!!! LOL

This is the big tune from the album,  featuring Hadiqa Kiani. I think that is more then enuff for now…

K: Memorable journey hmmm…. a question to think about! I think it has to be when i was abroad and coming across a talant which filled the gap i was looking to fill in the Album. ”Omer Nadeem” awesome talent which made my year! Talent like that is very hard to come by.

DesiMag: What makes good music these days?

K: Well a beat what makes you move all depends on the track, most importantantly for me, its the singer! How he sings makes the song! The music is created around the way the song is sung!

DesiMag: What keeps you motivated?

K: Motivation, my fans and their love always keeps me motivated, their opinions on my music, i also motivate myself by creating new and fresh music from fresh talent. Also traveling to different destinations in the world to learn about music there, and the culture of music of which i try to embed in my tracks when i create a production.

DesiMag: How can young talent be more involved with music?

K: Simple they have to love music and love what they do in music , It really how hungry you are to get out there. But as their is so mush competition now 100% commitment is essential and always be ready for ups and down in this industry.

DesiMag: Tell us what you’re working on at the moment?

K: Just gona start the new single featuring Hadiqa Kiani and looking forward to shooting the video later in the year.

DesiMag: Where’s your favourite place to dine? (Restaurant, Café, Sheesha Bar, friends house – Area) (Birmingham, London, Peterborough etc)

K : Dine and Wine lol dont really get time for that but which ever part of the country i am in – Birmingham, London, Manchester, i always visit the popular restaurants, that way u cant go wrong.

DesiMag: What you listening to these days?

K: Few days ago i got the CD from the forthcoming bollywood movie called ”Prince,” my close friend from Mumbai has produced the music for the movie, he told me to have a listen and let him know what i thought about the sound track …its good most of the songs are by a friend of mine from Pakistan Atif Aslam.
