Celina Jaitley & Natasha Syed
DesiMag waved good bye to 2008 and welcomed in 2009 at The City Pavilion, Romford with UK’s finest heart throb, Princess of Bollywood herself, Celina Jaitley.
We caught up with The Bollywood Princess for 5 minutes, before she counted in the New year with a blast!
DesiMag: Why are you spending New Years in London?
Celina: London has always been a home away from home for me, you know and i’ve always had so much support from the British Asians. This is my place, this is my home, i get so much love and warmth. I love it! The British Asians play an important role in our careers to make them very successful. I wanted to do something which was interactive with the audience here and i got the oppurtunity to do that this year when CARVING DREAMS entertainment approached me for the show.
DesiMag: You have stared in films like Golmaal returns, Money hai to Honey hai and Red, what are we to expect from you?
C: Well there are seven releases, i’m doing movies with every big banner and most of them are comedies. Comedy is something that interest’s me and i really didn’t come across a serious script which really grabbed my attention until now. I love making people laugh, i love being comical, I love being funny, i love having fun when im shooting and comedy does that for me. I’m doing a lot of comedy and I’m enjoying it.
DesiMag: What do you look for in a script?
C: Well there’s production value, what would suit me, like in Red it was saving people’s lives so i want to do characters which are different, typical stereotype characters which are played by Bollywood actresses, yes! Want to do them and i am wild but then i also want to do stuff which is just Celina Jaitley you know and Red was one of that. It was a serious film, i think Vikram Butt is an intense film maker and i wanted to do something like that.
DesiMag: Whats your Take on the Terror attack in Mumbai?
C: Well i would totally agree with what Shahrukh Said, the teachings of Allah were mis-interpreted by people and they are being used wrongly so we have to go by the Quran that Allah has written and not the Quran that man has written. Unfortunately regarding the Jihadies and the terrorists, I just want to say that we are not scared, what happened in Mumbai was very unfortunate, a lot of people lost their lives. India is strong, we are all together. The Terrorists don’t daunt us, and I can say this on behalf of all of Mumbai.
DesiMag: Does it Effect you in anyway?
C: you know what, the first thing I’m going to do is go and eat at Taj and when Trident opens, I’m going to eat there and the day that Oberoi’s open, I’m going to eat there. We were scared when it happened but we now stand united. We challenged them and I don’t think they can do this again.
DesiMag: What is your New Years Resolution?
C: Well I’m going to be working very hard to maintain my single status. (Laughs) because I really want to concentrate on my work, I have seven films coming up, is that honest enough? I’m gonna do three things, which I haven’t done…all these years of my life, believe me, there wacked out!
DesiMag: Come on Celina, Give us a hint
C: One is to get my Pilot’s licence which is the grand one, but the other two are rather private and personal and not on the lines of relationships.
DesiMag: Lets talk about your family, are they all based in India?
C: Most of them are.
DesiMag: Is your mum still based in Afghanistan and teaching psychology?
C: Yes, she still does. She’s an Afgani Origin, born and brought up in India.
DesiMag: Pilot? Fill us in?
C: Well I was part of the Air Force Swing in the National cadet core and I have done a couple of hours of flying, I just wanted to pursue that and get a PPL, which is a Persons private Licence, just something I’ve always wanted to do, coming from a military family you know.
DesiMag: Is it hard not having family within this film industry? The film industry have there own groups and production lines etc?
Celina: Off course it’s hard but I think it’s hard in every profession. No profession comes easy, off course its always beneficial if your family has some knowledge of the profession your in to, like a doctors son would know what a doctor’s life is all about. I really should be in the army right now. (laughs) but im not, the good thing is that the people in the industry, no matter what people say about our industry, our industry sticks together, it is there, the industry has given me so much that I really have nothing to complain about.
DesiMag: Can you tell us a little about the film you are doing with Orlando Bloom and Sean Connery?
C: Well, the film Is called, The Quest of Sheherzade and it’s the prequel to the Arabian Nights and how the whole story of the Arabian Nights Came around.
DesiMag: what’s your role in this film?
C: Well I play the Character of Princess Sheherzade who is a Persian princess and how she talks to Prince sheriyal, how they fight Jhangez Khan together.
DesiMag: You look absolutely stunning tonight, you really do.
C: Thank you
DesiMag: I totally understand why they call you ‘’The Bollywood Princess’’
Celina: Laughs
DesiMag: What are you wearing today? Who’s it Designed by?
C: Well, this outfit is designed by Rohit Chaturvedi, he’s New in this industry but he’s good and he’s doing…(Celina Sneezes and laughs) a couple of my films, very talented.
DesiMag: How long have you been in London for? Are You here for long?
C: I leave tomorrow. I fly back to India.
Desimag: When will you be back?
C: I’ll be back in February; we’re shooting for the second schedule of Showman again. It’s a Raj Sudolia film, with me, Govinda and Rimi Sen.
DesiMag: What role do you play?
C: I play an English Girl,, I’m half English and half Indian. I’m a Punjabi girl so I’m really looking forward to that because my character is based on a girl who works in a nightclub and I want to open my own club so I somehow become a stripper?
DesiMag: (Laughs) It would be good to see this type of Role in a Bollywood film.
Celina: I had to do a lot of Pole dancing and you so have to be physically…
Desimag and Celina: Fit to do it!
C: Oh my god, when somebody asks, what do you do for fitness, I say you have no idea but I cant say stripping but I’m defiantly doing the Pole Dancing and it’s very difficult.
DesiMag: I can imagine. Well Celina, thank you very much for your time. Desimag had the pleasure of your company on New Years eve 2008 and we both welcomed in 2009. Very Best of Luck for your Future Career. Can’t wait to see your forthcoming Film’s and catch up with you in the new year!
